This academic year I have been working with a group of parents here in Southampton. As part of our discussions, we have been exploring services and support in the local community. Together, we have created the following handout. This Spring, we hope to put together a more comprehensive guide for all parents of a child with additional needs or a disability.
I hope you find it useful if you live locally in Southampton!

Needs Assessments provide details of the barriers and difficulties a learner is facing. They don’t provide a formal diagnosis (such as autism, or ADHD). However, they are useful in supporting those on diagnostic waiting lists. They can provide detailed information on the learning needs of a person, and the types of support and intervention that should be used.

After nearly two decades of working for others, I've just wrapped up my first eight weeks of self-employment. It's been fantastic! I've had the pleasure of meeting amazing children, professionals, and families. I'm excited to see what the rest of the academic year brings. Happy half-term to all the hard-working children and teachers out there!
