New Forest Care Limited has been in operation as an acute residential, education and therapeutic childcare provider since June 2001. The Company was originally set up by a committed, highly professional, multi-disciplinary group of childcare practitioners who were champions in their fields, coming together to make a real difference to the lives of children who were looked after by the Social Care Agencies. The group had been disheartened by the lack of specialised, forensic mental health facilities and treatment alongside poor standards of practice, which were being offered to meet the highly complex needs, of this country's most disenfranchised, difficult, unusually complex, or dual diagnosis young people. These young people aged between 10 -19 were generally viewed as 'unplaceable', ‘unworkable’ and for the majority, other professionals were unwilling to support or knew what to do with. Their behaviours were sometimes dangerous to the public, they posed a high risk to themselves, or they were at risk of serious harm from others. Young people had often suffered horrific abuse, endured many placement breakdowns and society had all but rejected them. Children and young people placed in our care have often suffered severe trauma in their young lives, which has left them often angry, let down and very distrustful of adults, which is then displayed through anti social and negative self harming behaviours.
