Hardmoor Nursery & Early Years, Southampton Woodland Nursery in the Heart of Southampton. Nursery education and childcare for children 0-5 years with qualified teachers & practitioners.

Part of the Learning Federation Partnership of Schools. Hardmoor is an early years provider based in a fantastic woodland in Bassett Green. We provide nursery education and day care for children from 3 months to 5 years. We have an exciting outside play area, including the woodland, fruit and vegetable garden and our very own chickens. Our sessional nursery is led by qualified nursery and early years teachers. Our day care facility is open 8am - 6pm, Monday - Friday, 51 weeks a year.

💛 A warm, caring and nurturing environment where little ones can learn, grow and have fun. Set over 3 acres our outdoor wood learning is one of our most proud features at Hardmoor. Every day children can get outside to explore, care for local wildlife, plant and grow and more.

⏰ Flexible hours available – part-time or full-time options.

💷 Funded hours available, including 15 and 30-hour funding.

🌅 Extended hours available from 7:30am–5:00pm.

You don't need expensive toys to make wonderful memories outdoors!

Here are some fun ideas for our families to try:

💧 Fill a washing-up bowl with water and add cups, spoons and jugs for pouring and splashing.
🏖️ Use a bucket or tray filled with sand (or soil) for digging, scooping and making patterns.
🫧 Blow bubbles and chase them around the garden or park.
🍃 Go on a nature hunt for leaves, sticks, feathers and flowers.
🎨 Paint fences or patios with water using old paintbrushes.
🚲 Create an obstacle course with chalk, cushions, boxes or cones.
🌈 Draw pictures and hopscotch with pavement chalk.
🥣 Make a "mud kitchen" using old pots, pans, spoons and natural treasures.
🧺 Enjoy a picnic with favourite snacks and storybooks.

🥣 Make animals from cardboard tubes.
📦 Build castles, rockets or garages from empty boxes.
🥚 Create caterpillars, flowers or chicks from egg boxes.
🍼 Use bottle tops for colour sorting, counting or printing.
📰 Tear and stick old magazines to make colourful collages.

Getting outside is one of the best ways for babies, toddlers and preschoolers to learn through play. Try these simple ideas:

🍃 Collect leaves, sticks and flowers.
🐞 Look for bugs, birds and butterflies.
💧 Splash in puddles or explore a stream (with close supervision).
🌳 Talk about what you can see, hear, smell and feel.
