Year 4 were lucky to receive some fabric from Yinka Shonibare Studio who we have been studying. We have used this to make our fabulous sculptures in our art lessons! 🎨

What a ship-shape day Reception had had at Pirate School on Friday! ⚓️

Our adventure began with a special visit from the Mayor of Southampton, who looked fantastic in her elegant robe and tricorn hat. She shared fascinating stories about the real-life pirates who once ruled the ports here in Southampton and was very impressed by all of our amazing pirate costumes! 🏴‍☠️ Thank you so much for coming to visit us, please come back soon!

Then, after everyone had been given their very own pirate name, we set sail for a day packed with pirate fun! We enjoyed Pirate PE (where Danny even made us walk the plank! 😱), pirate phonics, made our own eye patches, read pirate stories, sang sea shanties and cooled off in the afternoon with some well-earned ice lollies. 🍦☀️

Year R also chose their best pirate joke:

Congratulations to Freddie who was the winner of the name the food waste truck competition. 🎉He was awarded a certificate and prize by none other than the Lord Mayor of Southampton! We also got the chance to see the newly named Normatron 3000! 👏👏👏👏
