Paws, Check, Proceed - QIClearn 17/06/2026

🌟 As part of the QI Leaders Pathway 2025 Vets for Pets course, Kelly Gordon led a high‑impact quality improvement project focused on procedural safety.

🐾 Her project, “Paws, Check, Proceed”, aimed to improve completion of pre‑procedure safety checklists - a vital safeguard to prevent omissions, near misses, and potential harm before sedation, anaesthesia, or surgery.

By testing small, system‑focused changes, such as redesigning the checklist layout, making it more visible, clarifying shared responsibility between vets and nurses, and using visual prompts, Kelly achieved a sustained increase to 100% checklist completion.

✅ The result? More reliable safety processes, reduced risk of preventable errors, and a stronger culture of shared accountability for patient safety.

Dentistry is incredibly rewarding but it can also be high pressure. Productivity demands, complaints and complex cases can place real strain on clinicians and teams.

➡️ At QIClearn, we help dental organisations create safe learning environments where clinicians reflect, learn from real cases and support each other.

This helps improve:
✔ Morale
✔ Staff retention
✔ Safety culture

For multi-practice groups, we also help turn clinical experiences, complaints and near-misses into shared learning, so improvements don’t stay in just one practice but benefit the whole organisation.

✅ Work alongside QIClearn to turn clinical experiences, complaints and near-misses into shared learning across the organisation. This helps with: peer review, clinical development advisors, quality improvement and governance.

Our programmes are particularly valuable for organisations recruiting overseas dentists, helping clinicians who are new to the NHS and UK systems build confidence faster through reflection, peer learning and real case discussion.

The result? Stronger teams and reduced clinical risk.

Do you want to pioneer and lead the way in building QI capacity and capability in private healthcare?

Many organisations struggle with recurring problems:

Staff retention. Do my clinicians have autonomy, flexibility and a well organised setting?

How can we boost our reputation? Is our patient messaging effective?

Could we reduce spend? (for example consumables and energy)
Is our organisation fully invested in integrative care and wellness?

Can QI be used to ensure you are recovering all the available income?

✅ We’ve seen how tested Quality Improvement (QI) methods can break those cycles and create lasting change.

If you’re ready to explore a different approach, QIC are offering confidential, pro-bono coaching conversations with private healthcare leaders who want to transform how their teams work - no strings attached. 💡

Message us if you’d like to be part of shaping what “next-level QI” looks like in private healthcare.

Don’t Be Late – Label the Date! - QIClearn 03/06/2026

🌟 As part of the QI Leaders Pathway 2025 Vets for Pets course, Charlotte Evans led a quality improvement project focused on medication safety in practice.

🐾 Her project, “Don’t Be Late – Label the Date!”, addressed the risk of injectable medicines being left undated after opening - an issue that can compromise patient safety and breach veterinary medicines regulations.

By testing simple but effective change ideas, including clear date stickers, team discussions, and iterative PDSA cycles, Charlotte achieved a sustained improvement, with all opened injectable drug bottles consistently dated. Visual prompts played a key role in supporting new habits and embedding safer practice.

✅ The result? Reduced risk of administering out‑of‑date medications, improved compliance, and a safer, more reliable approach to medicines management.
