We're sure you'll agree that our Year 11s looked amazing for their Prom last week.

As part of our Day of Faith, Year 9 students took part in a creative workshop led by Mrs Gilbank and Miss Gillings. Using a range of technology resources, students worked collaboratively to create a striking piece of string art spelling the word “ASPIRE”. Each student took turns carefully hammering in the nails and connecting the yarn to form the finished design.
The artwork carries a special meaning for our school community. The individual nails represent the students and staff of Saint George, while the interwoven yarn symbolises the shared values that unite us and enable us to create something truly beautiful together.
The completed artwork was proudly displayed beside the altar during Mass. We are extremely proud of the creativity, teamwork and care shown by our students, and the final piece is a wonderful reflection of our community and values.

The Summer Edition

We have now reached our 10th and final edition of the academic year.

I want to take one last opportunity to thank all of the incredible young journalists who have created a variety of informative and entertaining articles for your reading pleasure. School is a very busy time, so to take on the additional responsibility of sourcing and writing stories in their own free time really is a credit to the level of dedication these students have.

Enjoy the long break—may it be both adventurous and restful. We look forward to reporting back to you in September.

Meet the Governor: Mike Wood

Mike is one of our newest members of the governing board starting as a Foundation Governor in January 2025. He is our SEN Link Governor.

He comes with 37 years of teaching experience, working in education as a Geography teacher; Head of department; leader of gifted students and examiner.

He is a member of St Boniface Catholic Church is Southampton and at present is Chair of the PPC as well as helping run the music ministry within the church.

He has strong connections with St Georges Catholic college. His son attended St Georges and also worked here. Two of his daughters have also worked at the college whilst his wife was a governor in the past.

We are excited to see how Mike can support the governing body in the years to come.

On Monday the 22nd of June the Business department took two groups of year 9 students for the final of the Solent Business Challenge against other secondary schools in the city. As always they represented the school fantastically and it’s great to see their learning put into action!

A huge thank you to Kier Group for hosting an incredible 3-day virtual/hybrid work experience programme for our Year 10 students this week.

The programme provided our students with a fantastic insight into the construction industry, introducing them to a wide range of career pathways and the many exciting opportunities available within the sector. The programme also gave students the chance to build their employability skills, ask questions, and discover the many different roles that contribute to successful construction projects—from engineering and site management to design, sustainability, digital technologies and business support.

We are so grateful to the KIER team for investing their time, expertise and enthusiasm in supporting the next generation. Opportunities like these help our students build confidence, broaden their horizons and make such a positive impact on our students futures!

Last week our Year 8 linguists took part in a Spelling Bee at the University of Southampton with the Modern Foreign Languages department and were joint winners of the competition with Hamble School.

We are extremely proud of our students and staff. Despite the heat, today has been a calm and productive day, with lessons taking place as normal.

However, as the forecast indicates that temperatures tomorrow will be similar or slightly higher, we have decided that the school will be closed on Thursday 25 June 2026.

All students should return to school as normal on Friday 26 June 2026, wearing their white Saint George PE kit. Students may wear their summer uniform instead, should they prefer.

From Monday 29 June 2026, all students should return to school in their summer uniform.

As you may be aware, temperatures are forecast to rise significantly tomorrow and Thursday, with the hottest conditions expected during the early afternoon. Our students have coped remarkably well so far; however, in view of the forecast temperatures, the school will close early on both days.

Early finishing times

Wednesday 24 June 2026: School will finish at 12:20pm. Students travelling on the 301 bus will finish at 11:00am.

Thursday 25 June 2026: School will finish at 12:20pm. Students travelling on the 301 bus will finish at 11:00am.

All students should attend school wearing their white Saint George PE kit on Wednesday and Thursday.

We have been able to rearrange all school buses to accommodate the early finish, with the exception of the 301 service. The earliest available departure time for this service is 11:00am. Students who have a confirmed place on the 301 will therefore be permitted to leave through the school gate at 11:00am to catch the bus, provided their name appears on our list.

All other students will be dismissed at 12:20pm. The remaining school buses and the school minibus will depart shortly after 12:20pm on both days.

Students should return to school in their summer uniform for a normal school day on Friday 26 June 2026.

Postponed events

The following events scheduled for this week have been postponed. The revised dates are:

Sports Day for Years 7–10: Monday 13 July 2026. Students should wear their white Saint George PE kit.
