LifeLab is a science education intervention programme based at University Hospital Southampton.
Empowering children and young people through science to make positive lifestyle choices. LifeLab is a science education intervention designed to change young people’s attitudes and behaviour towards their own health, and the health of their future children, through a hands-on, science-oriented teaching package. The programme has been developed by researchers from the University of Southampton's Education School, Faculty of Medicine and Mathematics and Science Learning Centre.

Did you know LifeLab offers students who have engaged with LifeLab, either through school or independently, the opportunity to participate in work experience at LifeLab.
But that's not all! We work with our colleagues within the Faculty of Medicine, the wider university, and hospital to afford those students a look at least 1 other area of working with science. Giving them a breadth of experiences they can draw on to help them make decisions on what they may like to pursue in their future careers.

The team are busy preparing the British Science Festival's dedicated Schools and Colleges Programme at the University of Southampton.
Visitors will have the opportunity to explore cutting-edge research, engage with experts, and discover the possibilities that science, technology and innovation can offer for their future studies and careers.

Places are limited, so we encourage schools, colleges and organisations to register their interest early - send us a message to find out more.
Please note that the Schools and Colleges Programme is a dedicated strand of the Festival and is available exclusively to pre-booked school and college groups. As such, information about these sessions is not available on the official British Science Festival website.

Happy work experience month!
Did you know that LifeLab host work experience students?
We invite all of our "Meet the Scientists" to host our WEX students for part of the time they are spending with us. We aim to give them a varied insight into what working with science can actually entail... its not all about being a doctor.
Meet John, a professor of allergy and respiratory genetics. John has worked closely with LifeLab for many years and has collaborated with us on projects such as our "What's the problem with va**ng" resources. He also speaks to our visiting students about his job and how he got there during our Meet the Scientist sessions on LifeLab school visit days.
