Our learners are creating a visible, positive impact in the local community!

As part of our Volunteering and Community Action course, they took to the streets for a community litter pick. In just the first 20 minutes, they had already filled 10 bags of litter — and by the end of the session, a total of 13 bags of rubbish had been collected.

This is about so much more than keeping our neighbourhood clean. It's about giving back, building confidence, working together, and taking pride in the community we all share.

Every pound raised will go directly towards meeting the emergency needs of our clients—providing vital support such as food, essential household items, travel costs, and other urgent assistance when it's needed most.

🎶🌍 Sharing Songs from Home 🌍🎶

The John Hansard Gallery came alive with songs and voices from around the world yesterday, in a celebration of music and culture. A group of singers and musicians from CLEAR, Welsh National Opera Cenedlaethol Cymru and University of Southampton (Music at Southampton) performed at a special concert celebrating diverse musical traditions.

The audience enjoyed beautiful songs from countries including Syria, Ukraine, Iran and China, alongside the rich heritage of opera. The concert showcased the power of music to connect people across cultures and communities, with singers performing in multiple languages.

This inspiring event was organised by CLEAR, Welsh National Opera, the Southampton Centre for Music Education and Social Justice, and the Department of Music, with support from the University Sanctuary Team. John Hansard Gallery hosted the concert, as part of its Community Takeover 2026.

Refugee Week celebrations continue into July with a 'Unity in the Community' march around Southampton this Sunday!

Are you passionate about teaching? Would you like to help refugees and people seeking safety learn English?

We’re looking for volunteer ESOL teachers to join our team who are available from September. 📖🔤📝

We ask for a teaching qualification (CELTA, Trinity CertTESOL or PGCE) and commitment of six to nine months over the academic year.

In return, you’ll gain valuable ESOL teaching experience, access to training and the satisfaction of seeing our learners progress. 👩🏾‍🎓🎉🙌

Times available:
🕙 Entry level 2 – Tuesday 10am to 12pm
🕙 Entry level 3 – Thursday 10am to 12pm
