A little snippet from Chloe performing at O’Neill’s as part of Music in the City! 🎶✨

brings live music to venues all across Southampton, with hundreds of artists performing throughout the day, so it was really lovely to have some of our Benana students getting involved this year. 🙌

Chloe was one of several of our students performing across the day, singing a couple of songs at O’Neill’s and she was amazing. 🎤

A few snippets from Newfields Gardening CIC’s 10th Anniversary Open Day! 🌿🎶

We had such a lovely afternoon celebrating 10 years of Newfields, with four of our Benana students performing live, plus Zoi from Pure Rehearsal Studios who we invited along to perform with us. 🎤🎸🎹

There was lots of live music throughout the afternoon too, with a mix of other local bands and groups performing. 🎶

A massive well done to our four students and Zoi for getting up and performing, and thank you so much to everyone who stopped to watch, listen and support them! 🙌

We were really happy to be invited along and to play a small part in such a special milestone for Newfields. 🎶

And of course, a huge happy 10th anniversary to everyone there! 🌿✨

A few snippets from our very first Songwriters’ Showcase! ✍️🎶

We were honestly blown away by the talent, creativity and effort, and by what you all managed to write with Seb over the summer. 🥹

This was the first Benana showcase made up entirely of original music, with every song performed on the night written by our students.

It was so lovely hearing everything come together and seeing each of you get up and perform something that started as your own idea just a few weeks ago. From the lyrics and melodies to the stories behind the songs, we loved hearing what you’d all created.

A massive well done to everyone who performed and shared their music with us, and a huge thank you to Seb for all the work she put into the songwriting sessions over the summer and for helping everyone bring their ideas to life! 🙌

And thank you to everyone who came along to Riverside Bistro to support our songwriters. 🎶

Our first original music showcase… definitely not our last. 👀

We’re really excited to be joining Music in the City 2026 this year! 🎶

On Saturday 12th September, Southampton will be filled with live music, with hundreds of artists and musicians performing across venues throughout the city - and for the first time, Benana students will be joining them!

We’ll be at O’Neill’s on Above Bar Street at 3pm for a Benana Student Showcase, with a brilliant mix of our singers and musicians getting up and performing as part of the festival. 🎤

We love giving our students opportunities to perform outside of lessons, and Music in the City is a brilliant chance for them to gain more live experience and be part of the wider Southampton music scene. 🙌

If you’re in town for Music in the City, come along and give our performers some support, and make sure you explore some of the other amazing artists playing across Southampton throughout the day too!

A few snippets from our Summer Showcase! ☀️

What a lovely evening at The Station! 🎶

We had such a brilliant mix of performances, from favourite covers to original songs, and we loved seeing so many of our students getting up and sharing what they’ve been working on. 🎤

A massive well done to everyone who performed, and thank you so much to everyone who came along to support them! 🙌

And a special shoutout to two of our students who helped us set up, pack everything away AND did the sound throughout the evening! 🎛️

🎤 Meet Lucia - our singing teacher at Applemore College! 🎶

We’re so excited for Lucia to be joining Applemore from September, teaching weekly singing lessons during the school day!

Lucia is a passionate singer-songwriter, vocal teacher and professional performer with over 15 years of live performance and recording experience. She holds a First-Class Honours degree in Vocal Performance and Songwriting from BIMM Brighton.

Alongside teaching, Lucia is an active performer, leading her own originals band and providing backing vocals for a supergroup featuring members of Simple Minds, Tears for Fears, Procol Harum and Status Quo. 🎶

From contemporary music to musical theatre, Lucia tailors every lesson to each student’s voice, interests and goals, creating a fun and supportive environment where students can build confidence, develop their voice and enjoy singing the music they love.

We’re really excited to be joining Newfields Gardening CIC for their 10th Anniversary Open Day! 🌿🎶

Newfields is a brilliant Southampton not-for-profit organisation providing person-centred day care for adults with a range of needs. From gardening and growing plants to arts & crafts, cookery and work experience, they create a safe and welcoming environment where people can develop skills, independence, friendships and confidence. ✨

This year marks 10 years of Newfields, and on Saturday 5th September they’re opening their doors for a special anniversary Open Day to celebrate!

We’re very happy to be part of it, with Benana students performing live from 1pm. Expect a mix of singers and musicians bringing plenty of live music to the celebrations! 🎤🎸🎹

The whole Open Day runs from 10am–4pm and is completely FREE to attend, so come along, support our performers, discover what Newfields do and help them celebrate an amazing 10 years! 🌿

A little throwback to our Annual Showcase at The Joiners in June! 🎶

Back in June, we took over the legendary Joiners stage for our annual Benana showcase, and between performances Jo caught up with Ben and Anna between performances to find out what they’d played, their favourite song of the day so far… and who their favourite Benana teacher is. Let’s just say Jo wasn’t entirely impressed with Ben’s answer to that last one. 😂

One of our favourite things about Benana showcases is giving our students the chance to experience performing at real Southampton music venues - whether it’s their first ever performance or one of many. 🎶

We are SO excited for this one! 🎶

For the first time ever, we’re hosting a Benana showcase dedicated entirely to original music! ✍️🎤

Throughout the summer, some of our students have been working with Seb in songwriting sessions, developing their own songs from the very first ideas through to finished pieces - and now, they’re getting ready to perform them live for the first time!

Our Songwriters’ Showcase will be an evening celebrating their creativity and giving each songwriter the chance to share their own music, stories and ideas. We genuinely can’t wait to hear what they’ve created. 🥹

Come along to support our songwriters, discover some brand-new music and enjoy some delicious food from Riverside Bistro while you’re there!
