Rugby Round Up - Year 7 super stars shine
After a great warm up winning tournament at Finham, the year 7 squad went away to Lawrence Sheriff in Rugby Town.
A powerful display of running by Pack Leader Archer R showed the lads how to get a flying start. His tackling, hard running and superb body positions in rucks have been outstanding. Jago M at Fly half linked well with Captain Callum B to get the ball out to flying centres Harry and George C. Jago continued his man of the match performance at the tournament with great tackling and clever passing. George's pace and balance in the centres saw him go over for a great try. Alfie O also ran the ball well alongside tenacious hot stepping Tate and Ben G. Austin V was perhaps the best rucking player alongside Seth M and Oscar C put in a great shift.
I have also been impressed with other players new to the game - Brody J listens and is learning well. He ran in for a great try and should be snapped up by a club. Nel M also shows a spirit and drive to improve. His tackling later in the game and presentation in the rucks showed him to be a future Jason Robinson!
The ch*****ne moment was a great run from debutant Alex L. who scored a brace in the game. He really listened and showed intelligence by breaking through and then looking for an outstanding offload for fellow debutant Max H. who stormed through close to the line. That's the type of support play we want. Well done Max.
Will M should always be mentioned for his fantastic tackling - he saved our bacon a few a times. We are at 60% lads on that count so more tackles from all and improved, rucks and counter rucks are big 'work ons'.
The man of the match goes to Harry C. His tackle after tackle, hard running in both defence and attack made him shine in a team that shows real promise.
Full credit to an inexperienced but hard working Sherrif who battled well and will be on our coat tails next year. We need to keep improving. There were some great patterns of play at times lads. Well done. I am Very proud of your commitment and efforts! A huge thank you as well to Marc who has been a great help at the start of the year. A change of squad for Finham and a change again for Stratford next week. Southam College 45 LSS 10
