POWERbreathe - Official site POWERbreathe Inspiratory Muscle Training. As you breathe in through POWERbreathe, you breathe in against an adjustable, calibrated resistance.

Breath by breath, our world leading, clinically proven, drug-free respiratory muscle training devices help you to breathe better for health, wellness, sport, and performing arts. POWERbreathe works closely with experts in breathing physiology from around the globe and has developed a range of cutting edge breathing training, monitoring and testing devices. POWERbreathe uses the same principals as

resistance training and is often referred to as “dumbbells for your diaphragm”. This makes your inspiratory muscles work harder. This concept of training is called Inspiratory Muscle Training or IMT. POWERbreathe training has been proven to improve sports performance, improve fitness and reduce breathlessness.

The best training tool? The one you remember to use. 🫁

Bedside table. Desk. Gym bag. Wherever you’ll see it.

Making IMT part of your routine can be as simple as keeping your POWERbreathe somewhere you’ll actually use it.

All month we’ve been talking about recovery, so what happens when the training stops? 🫁

New research in women with stable COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) looked at IMT, aerobic exercise and importantly, what happened during two weeks of detraining.

Combined IMT + aerobic exercise produced the broadest short-term improvements, but several outcomes began to decline once training stopped.

A useful reminder that respiratory muscle training, like any muscle training, is about more than making progress, it’s about maintaining it too.

The study used the POWERbreathe Classic for IMT, with inspiratory flow and volume assessed using the POWERbreathe K5.

What happens when your legs outrun your lungs? 🏃🫁

At higher intensities, your breathing muscles have to work harder - and for well-trained athletes, the respiratory system can become part of the performance equation.

The good news? Your inspiratory muscles are trainable.
Targeted inspiratory muscle training can help build breathing strength and resistance to fatigue.

What if the performance edge isn’t always in training harder… but recovering better? 💤

Ahead of his first Olympic Games in Tokyo, Olympic medallist Adam Burgess adopted a simple mantra: “Be the best at rest.”

Training alongside two other top-10 athletes, Adam knew he couldn’t necessarily out-train the competition.
Instead, he focused on showing up fresher, recovering better and being ready to perform day after day. 🚀
In a Better Breathing Institute webinar earlier this year, Adam explains how breathing and breathwork became part of that approach - supporting recovery, control and performance, including using data from his Garmin Garmin UK & Ireland to better understand the relationship between sleep and breathwork.

Because sometimes, doing less is what helps you perform more.

We’re excited to welcome Dr Christine Sapienza as POWERbreathe International Education Lead for the USA 🇺🇸🫁

An internationally recognised scientist and clinician, Dr Sapienza has spent more than 30 years helping shape the science and clinical application of respiratory muscle strength training (RMST). Her pioneering work in expiratory muscle strength training (EMST) has had a major impact across airway protection, swallowing, cough and voice-respiratory control.

In her role with POWERbreathe, Dr Sapienza will lead educational initiatives via The Better Breathing Institute, across the US, supporting healthcare, performance and fitness professionals in the application of evidence-based RMST.

'Christine's research on respiratory muscle training has genuinely shaped how healthcare professionals think about voice, swallowing and airway protection. I'm excited to welcome her to POWERbreathe, to support our education initiatives, as we continue to deliver evidence-based expertise and better breathing technologies, to clinicians and patients worldwide.'
Dr Sabrina Brar, Chief Future Officer

We’re delighted to collaborate with Dr Sapienza as we continue advancing science-driven respiratory training and education around the world.

Registration is open for our exclusive webinar with Dr Sapienza, exploring the foundations and application of Expiratory Muscle Training. Wednesday 16th September, 12.30pm (BST). Sign up here:

You track your pace.
You track your heart rate.
But what about your breathing? 🫁

A recent Runner’s World article explores how breathing data can offer another view of running intensity - and why your respiratory muscles matter too.

Just like other muscles, they can be trained to become stronger and more fatigue-resistant.
That’s where POWERbreathe comes in.

Because breathing isn’t just something you do while you train. It’s something you can train. Link in bio for more!
