This Level 3 and A Level Results Day, we want to congratulate our Pre Cadetship students who completed their Vocational Level 2 and Academic Level 3 courses with us this past academic year

🙌Their hard work and dedication during their courses was commemorated at our Pre Cadet Celebration of Achievement event last month, with student’s families and friends coming together with our staff to celebrate their course completion and achieve certificates and awards 🏆

Many of our Pre-Cadet students will be returning in September to commence their Cadetship with us – a fully paid and sponsored training programme incorporating study and working at sea 👷 training to become a ship’s officer in either our Navigation, Engineering, or Electro-Technical Officer routes

If you or someone you know have just picked up results today from school or college, or is a previous Pre Cadet, a Cadetship might be perfect for those looking to do something different while getting paid to study and travel the world 💸🗺️

🚢 Applications for our Cadetship courses are direct through our shipping partners and training management companies; these include cruise liners, research vessels, oil tankers, and many more

Entry requirements for some routes start from GCSE/Level 2 qualifications, and we still have some places for September 2026 or January 2027 ✔️

We are now a Safe Reporting Centre for Hate Crime, meaning our students and staff have a safe place to report any hate crime against themselves or others, alongside being able to access dedicated hate crime support from our Wellbeing Team and Hate Crime Champions.

This forms part of the measures we are putting in place to uphold a safe enviroment for everyone at our college 💙

Last week, we officially became Safe Reporting Centres for Hate Crime along with our teams from South Tyneside College and South Shields Marine School.

We're proud to be the first colleges in the region to work in partnership with Northumbria Police to train more than 40 members of staff as Hate Crime Champions. This means our students and staff now have a safe, supportive environment where they can report hate crime, access guidance, and receive ongoing support from our dedicated Wellbeing Team.

A huge thank you to Jasmine and Jim from South Tyneside Community Engagement Team for delivering such engaging and informative training. Kim McGuinness- North East Mayor visited Tyne Coast College’s new South Shields Marine School and South Tyneside College campus development to view progress on this transformational project at the heart of the town centre 🏗️

The visit showcased the continued investment in skills, education and regeneration, and the partnership working driving the development forward.

Supporting the future of clean maritime skills ⚓🌍

On Wednesday 24th June, James Tagg, on of our Curriculum Managers, had the honour of being a guest speaker at the Clean Maritime Assembly at Durham University – a collaborative event that brings together maritime industry leaders, educators, and innovators to discuss the transition to cleaner, more sustainable shipping and the future of maritime decarbonisation.

James was delighted to speak about a topic that is incredibly important to the future of the industry: alternative fuels and the training of seafarers.

Over the last two years, his team has been working closely with industry partners to develop and deliver a range of courses designed to upskill seafarers in the safe use, management, and operation of alternative fuels. As the maritime sector continues its journey towards net zero, ensuring that the workforce is equipped with the right knowledge and skills has never been more important.

📣 We are pleased to announce that, over the coming weeks, a new Alternative Fuels Training Programme will be launched in preparation for the new academic year.

Pre Cadetship Celebration of Achievement Ceremony 2026 🎉

We are exciting to be holding a Celebration of Achievement Ceremony again this year (separate to our Cadet Graduation) for our Pre Cadets in receipt of their course completion with us 🥳

All of our 2025-2026 Pre Cadets have received an email today with their invitation and form to register 📧 get in touch with us by emailing [email protected] if you have any issues

📅 Date: Thursday 16th July 2026
📍 Location: Hedworth Hall, Dean Road, South Shields, NE33 4EA
🕒 Time: 2pm - 3pm, arrivals from 1:30pm
👥 Guests: Students can bring up to six guests (optional)
👔 Dress code: Formal (shirt and tie, dark trousers, dresses/skirts, smart shoes)

We're looking forward to acknowledging the hard work and dedication of our students at this event which will feature speeches, certificates, awards, photographs, and refreshments 🙌

Thursday 25th June is the Day of the Seafarer, and here at South Shields Marine School we want to praise our students past and present working at sea and keeping our global trade moving 🚢

Our students and trained officers play a key role in life ashore, from developing the skills in operating in challenging conditions and ensuring safety at sea, to supporting the movement maritime transport across the world 🌊

The International Maritime Organisation (IMO)'s Day of the Seafarer theme this year is "carrying world trade, carrying the risks". A career at sea comes with real challenges, and we are here to support our students and alumni's safety and wellbeing. From assisting student development to providing relevant training to mitigate risks at sea, we put seafarers first 🥇
