Job Vacancy: Electrical Lecturer ⚡

Are you an experienced electrical engineering professional looking to do something different? We are looking for an Electrical Lecturer to deliver engaging practical and classroom-based learning, bringing industry experience in electrical systems, maintenance, fault-finding and workshops to our students.

The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of electrical engineering, excellent communication and IT skills, experience working in a marine/industrial/engineering environment, alongside a commitment to learner success and safeguarding. A relevant Level 4 qualification is essential, alongside willingness to work towards completing a teaching qualification with us.

Advice Evening - Tuesday 6th October - 5-7pm 👋

Our next Advice Evening is this upcoming Tuesday 6th October from 5pm. Come along to speak with a member of our team about fantastic opportunities and rewarding pathways available through a career at sea. The Advice Evening takes place in South Tyneside College's refectory, and can best be accessed via their entrance on St George's Terrace, around the corner from our Marine School entrance.

The National Geographic Endurance polar expedition cruise ship visited the River Tyne this week, captained by South Shields Marine School alumnus Aaron Wood ⚓

Alongside being an expedition vessel for passengers, it carries research equipment for undersea specialist access for scientists to discover, examine, and share the underwater world.

Our Curriculum Manager Carole Briggs visited the Endurance on Tuesday for the port call in North Shields on its current voyage from Edinburgh to Lisbon, and took this photo of the magnificent vessel.

Although Captain Aaron Wood has commanded the vessel across the world and through Antarctic waters, it was his “cadetship dream” to one day sail down the River Tyne. He was delighted bring the vessel back to his home region and past the college where he trained to become Captain.

World Maritime Day 2026 🚢

Thursday 24th September was World Maritime Day, and this year's theme from the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) is "From Policy to Practice: Powering Maritime Excellence".

At South Shields Marine School, we aim to make a positive impact on the future of the marine world, which involves embedding frameworks into the principles of our teaching & learning to create maritime excellence.

We are proud to be able to deliver a wide variety of globally recognised courses at the highest standards, which help our students to become safe and knowledgeable seafarers.
