Good Luck to all GCSE Students from Harton Academy and our neighbouring schools!

What a fabulous morning at Harton Academy celebrating A-Level success! Our students have secured places at Universities across the Country. We also have more students accepting degree apprenticeships and other pathways. Well done to Hughie who achieved 3 A* grades and has accepted a place to study Mathematics at the University of Oxford. Samia achieved 2 A* grades and an A and will now pursue a career in Dentistry. Aleyah achieved an A* and 2 A grades and is off to Newcastle University to study Accountancy and Finance. We had a high number of students who achieved the top grades! Well done to Ellada who arrived to Harton from the Ukraine in 2022. She achieved an A* and two B grades and is now off to Durham University to study Psychology. Well done to all our students!

We are looking forward to seeing our students and celebrating their success. Results are available from 8:30am tomorrow in the Sixth Form Cafe. We have experienced staff on hand to support with results and next steps.

🌍🇰🇪 Welcome Home! 🇰🇪🌍

Our Year 13 students have safely returned from an unforgettable expedition to Kenya, and we couldn’t be more proud of every single one of them. Over the past two weeks they have shown compassion, resilience, determination and a willingness to step outside of their comfort zones. They have been outstanding ambassadors for our school, embracing every opportunity and creating memories that will stay with them for a lifetime.

❤️ Making a Difference

The first part of the expedition saw our students based in Embu, where they worked alongside Gilbert Njeru and the Moving Mountains charity, supporting street children and local communities. They spent time visiting schools, including Embu County Primary School, Urban Primary School and Gatwe Primary School, sharing experiences with pupils and staff, coaching the local Black Cats football team, and building friendships that crossed continents.

One of the most humbling experiences was visiting the slum school and the Kenyan Street Kitchen, where they helped provide meals for street children. Thanks to their incredible fundraising efforts before the trip, our students played a small part in supporting the long-term rehabilitation of thousands of vulnerable children. It was a truly life-changing experience that will remain with them forever.

⛰️ Conquering Mount Kenya

The second part of the expedition was an extraordinary physical and mental challenge as the group successfully climbed Mount Kenya over five days, reaching one of Africa’s highest peaks at 4,985 metres. Every student showed immense courage, perseverance and teamwork, supporting one another through long days of trekking, challenging terrain and changing conditions.

Reaching the summit was an incredible achievement and a testament to their resilience, determination and character. They should all be immensely proud of what they accomplished.

🦒 Experiencing Kenya’s Incredible Wildlife

The final stage of the expedition gave students the opportunity to experience the breathtaking beauty of Kenya’s national parks and wildlife. Travelling through Hell’s Gate National Park and enjoying safari experiences around Lake Naivasha, they encountered some of Africa’s most iconic animals while taking in spectacular landscapes. It was the perfect way to round off an adventure filled with challenge, learning and unforgettable moments.

We would also like to thank everyone who helped make this incredible expedition possible.

A special thank you to The Jack Budren Legacy Fund for donating £100 per student towards fundraising for the Kenyan street children, Northern Rights for providing educational resources for the schools, and Shipley’s Renewable for generously sponsoring each student’s visa.

Most importantly, thank you to our amazing students. You have represented our school with kindness, maturity and determination throughout this expedition. We are incredibly proud of each and every one of you and are delighted to welcome you home after what has truly been the adventure of a lifetime.

💙 Welcome home, Year 13 – you’ve been absolutely incredible.

In our year 7 science 'activites week sessions our students have been competing in the Science Olympics. Students have taken part in four events across the day: raft building, paper planes, bubble making and a crack the scientific code activity.

After each event first second and third places were awarded and point collected throughout the day. We then finished each day with a science general knowledge quiz to determine our ultimate gold silver and bronze medallists.

LONDON TRIP 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

The last day was spent was hot and sunny and we spent it in London Zoo exploring what it has to offer. The trip overall has been brilliant and all students have been excellent - a busy but fun packed few days!
