Hello,
I'm starting a wee special interest activity club every second Tuesday, beginning on the 8th September. This is an inclusive space for young people to come and share their interests or engage individually with peers around them. There will be opportunities to build relationships with peers in a low demand, neuroaffirming way with no pressure at all to join in.

I really hope to create a space for our young people who prefer a quieter, lower demand environment to play and build relationships with peers. (Basically, I'm trying to stop whining about there being nothing for our kids locally and go ahead and create it!) Very grateful to The Priory for supporting me in this wee venture. Please get in touch if you have any questions. :)

Note: There is a theme each week but this really will be a space for bringing your own interest with no expectation to engage in the theme.

Prepping for tutoring sessions. Tailored to each individual, play based and centred on interests. Always.

We learn when we are interested in a subject and when we feel safe, when our bodies are doing what they need to do to stay focused. And that looks different for everyone!

Normalise movement whilst learning.

Develop skills using interests and motivations.

And always, always have a dance break 🤣🥰

Having a time at the moment and this popped up… I can’t remember how I recorded singing to Sara B’s song. Genuinely, no idea. But I do remember that after only a year of being my sweet boy’s mummy, the pandemic entered and the pressure of being a teacher in an international school meant live zoom teaching all day, endless meetings, sending comments and feedback on seesaw every day and having parent meetings in my jammies. All while being COMPLETELY locked down with my toddler and our myriad of ND and trauma, our 3 dogs and cat. Lockdown in Peru was nothing like my friends’ experience in the UK. And it’s impossible to explain it to someone who didn’t live kids not being allowed outside AT ALL for 4 months. For schools completely closed for 18 months. Impossible.

Emilio came home to me locked away in his own world and I remember every single moment of him opening up and engaging with me and the world. One year later, I watched as he started to slip away again because I had no help, no one and was trying to keep my job.

I’m reminded of this time at the moment.

Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.

And that’s a wrap, folks!

With the most neurodivergent ending to a provision for us neurodivergents! Everyone cancelled for various (some heartbreaking) reasons so it was just me, a field and a lot of packing up and SWEAT!

To amuse myself, I filmed and thought I’d do a voiceover, specifically about not being able to stuff the tent into the carrier and THE wardrobe door…but I’m tired and I can’t figure out how to.

This has been a wonderful summer getting to know so many amazing young people and their families. Best part of anything ever. It’s also been massive amounts of learning, so much work and incredibly challenging trying to get my own child to feel part of a group. Not to mention the babysitter not managing on the days I didn’t bring him, the meltdowns, the flipping iPad ruining our lives (if you’ve ANY advice, I’m here for it) and the financial burden of being a solo parent and trying to start this thing.

I need to have a wee ‘pause and reflect’ now with all the learning that’s happened and I’ve got meetings set up with organisations that support ideas like this! Hoorah!

THANK YOU for being part of this. It’s been truly joyful and I can’t wait to see what we can grow from this 🌱

Loads of love, Maz ###x

A few folk have asked how HE went today. And my response has been that we just carried on living our lives.

1. I went to a woodworking workshop to help me bring this type of learning to my groups 🥰
2. E stayed with a babysitter and had some iPad time, park time, craft time and a major fixation on the wobbliest of teeth 🦷
3. Helped me with the washing and learned how to hang things so they’ll dry quicker (deciding where to place different sized clothes etc plus the extra heavy work benefit of carrying wet washing) 🏋️
4. Walked the dogs to the library, chatting maths all the way, mostly about stuff I don’t remember or understand from standard grade. Discussed getting maths books from the library. E went in ahead of me and asked the lovely Scott to help him find said maths books 📚🥰. Confident communication. Side note: spent time looking at picture board books aimed at much younger children. It’s always a stark reminder of who he is in some parts of his very spiky profile because of the myriad of neurodivergence and trauma 👶👦🏾💁🏽‍♂️
5. Walked a much longer route home because we need to move our bodies to stay healthy and went bramble picking, stopped to check out about a million insects 🦟 and found some mushrooms 🍄 to identify. Learned about never putting anything in your mouth without checking it’s safe 👷🏼
6. Spent time reading maths books 📚 🧮
7. Learned about then watched the eclipse after possibly the most autistic greeting to our friend I may have heard as she walked into our house 🏠. An immediate dive into why he wasn’t feeling well (news to me, mate) because of a nightmare on the 11th of July etc etc. It’s a wild ride here 🎢🤣
8. Read the first chapter of 130 tree storey treehouse himself (unheard of) then settled down with space books to get over to sleep 🛌

So there it is. Officially in our and it’s been a pretty standard day 🤣. Watch this space.

Oh, also, if you want to know more about how I can support your neurodivergent/disabled child with 1:1 sessions, ping me a DM! Child led, interest based, relationship first. Always. 🥰

I am terrified that I’m doing the wrong thing. Removing another thing that was a constant in my wee boy’s upside down world. But I also could not carry on the way we were - picking him up in shutdown almost daily 💔, fighting to be understood by someone who refused to understand, watching the little boy I knew slip away and become entirely reliant on a screen. No way. No how.

I’m terrified but I’ve also found a wonderful HE community who have welcomed us with open arms and kind hearts. They are teaching me that there’s another way and I am here for the learning 🥰.

To anyone who chooses a different way for your child, or who have been forced into it, or are in a limbo waiting for another provision or for a million other reasons you find yourself not going back to school tomorrow/this term/this year/ever… I’m with you. Scared, angry, exhausted, hopeful, excited, still exhausted, calmer. Every colour of the emotion wheel. I’m with you. X###

Another busy, fun filled day at the farm with our fabulous young people. Fen was a great hit again and our wee friend who is unsure of dogs had a great time showing Fen the potatoes we planted. 🥰 Ridiculous fun throwing shaving foam around on the parachute, lots of sensory play, bug hunting and taste testing (the chocolate was a hit, smelling coffee was not! 🤣).

Only 2 more sessions left and I am going to miss these guys!

Watch this space for what comes next 🥰

Looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow for some more outdoor fun and games!

Games, weaving, wool crafts, nature art, sense exploration, messy play, paint making, sensory trails and lots more.

Can’t believe we only have 3 more sessions left at 🤯. Time flies when you’re having fun/totally run off your feet! 🤣
