As part of Goju-Kai Europe, students can attend an annual training camp which is held in a different European country each year. This weekend we celebrated a piece of history for our club as our very first ever student from Ockendon Goju Kai, Hannah, achieved her Shodan Ho grade. 🖤

From the very beginning of her karate journey, watching her grow in confidence, skill, discipline and character has been incredible. This achievement is not just about a belt — it represents years of dedication, hard work, commitment, and the determination to keep learning and improving.

👋 Welcome to Ockendon Goju-Kai! A little about me.......

Hi, I’m Lauren 👋
I’m a 4th Dan black belt karate instructor with over 34 years of training and 10 years of teaching experience.
Karate has been a huge part of my life from a young age, taking me all over the UK and the world to train and compete. I’ve been fortunate to win numerous English, British, European, and World titles in both kata and kumite, and I continue to stay actively involved in karate through coaching, training, and competition.
I currently teach in South Ockendon & Grays, running classes in schools and community settings as well.
My focus is on traditional karate values — discipline, respect, confidence, and self-belief — while making sure classes are positive, supportive, and fun. Whether your goal is fitness, confidence, self-defence, or competition, my aim is to help every student reach their full potential, both on and off the mat.
