Practising singing and playing into a mic is something I don't do enough but if that is how you are going to be playing in front of others then it makes sense to practice it that way. Next time I will learn how to get the ukulele in the shot all time and not just in the solo

Never really tried open G tuning until someone wanted to learn a bit of cigar box which often uses G D G tuning. Then trying a bit of Rolling Stones was a natural progression. Keith Richards did a lot of the classic Stones riffs in Open G (minus the bottom string). Any open tuning is also used for slide. The latest use I have had is getting a beginner started on banjo. Started with a few basic chord shapes, some beginner tunes and a couple of simple fingerpicking rolls. You can even replicate the high G sound if you know your way around. After next week and the start of the next university term I might never give another beginner a start in banjo... but I am sure I will be playing a lot more slide and open G tuning!
