Your community garden in the heart of East Pollokshields, bringing people together, for education and enjoyment. Founded in 2008.

Local committee of resident volunteers who all live in the Pollokshields area in the tenements which border the Quad, i.e. Leven St, Darnley St, Nithsdale Rd and Kenmure St. We all maintain our Quad Green space so that the residents and wider community can come together to enjoy the space

Hello 👋

We are writing to share a very important update with you all.

Following a request from a subset of owners from both sides of the ‘Quad’ to end community access to the space, the East Pollokshields Quad charity will no longer manage the space and will close at the end of March.

This means the space will no longer be managed or cared for by volunteers organised by the charity East Pollokshields Quad.

From the 1st of April the trustees will also no longer be able to give permission for any groups, including growers, to use the space. They will inform all current users they are in touch with of such changes.

As you can imagine, this has been an extremely difficult decision to make for all trustees. We have tried our very best in the past year to find constructive solutions but we’ve now exhausted all avenues that would ensure meaningful community access to the space.

We are very thankful to all of those residents who have put their hearts and souls to make the Quad a welcoming, beautiful and inclusive community space.

We are keen that the space is still looked after and not misused, but from this point forward we’ll no longer be responsible for ensuring that.

Some volunteers will be relocating some of the plants and if you’re able to lend a hand, that would be great. Keep an eye out for messages in this chat.

All assets will be transferred to other community groups/charitable causes. This will take some time but we’ll do our best to ensure it happens. If you’re able to help with that, let us know.

We understand this may raise questions, so please feel free to get in touch.

The trustees are happy to answer any questions up until the end of April. You can contact them at [email protected]

We will directly inform all of the groups that currently use the space and will liaise with those looking after the grow beds.

There has been some discussion about a final event, if permission is given for this to go ahead.

In solidarity,
East Pollokshields Quad trustees - Valeria, Wesun, Karolis, Brian, Laura, Hannah and Fraser

Hi everyone 👋

It’s been a little while since the EGM, so we wanted to share a brief update.

After the discussion about the north-west section of the Quad, the Trustees have continued conversations with. Dr Zubir Ahmed MP and attended his recent surgery. His office will be sharing a survey with residents shortly, and will also be speaking with people locally to gather views.

Once feedback has been gathered, a wider meeting will be organised so it can be looked at together and discussed openly, with owners of both blocks included. We wanted to share this before the survey goes out so everyone is aware.

Thank you for your patience while this moves forward. If you have any questions or thoughts, please feel free to email us and we will do our best to support.

Hi everyone 👋 A quick update about the Quad.

The north-west section, which is legally owned by the Madrassa Zia-Ul-Quran, will soon be fenced off for activities for the sole use of the Madrassa and residents of the flats above.

We’ve been in discussion with the Madrassa for some time about ways to collaborate and share use of the space. It’s a disappointing outcome given the effort that’s gone into those conversations and the potential for activities that could have benefited the wider area.

A formal termination letter was sent to us on 23 September, giving a four-week notice period to vacate the north-west section by Tuesday 21 October.

🟢 What’s happening now:
• The rest of the Quad will stay open and continue to be maintained for everyone’s use.
• We’re moving plants from the north-west side and need help to rehome the fruit trees and roses before the end of the month. Please message if you can help or know of a nearby space for them.
• The greenhouse has now been dismantled to help deter anti-social behaviour.
• We’ve arranged a meeting soon with the community police to discuss recent antisocial behaviour, and we’ll share an update afterwards.

🟢 Next steps:
• We’re exploring options that could help the Quad continue to support the wider community. Your feedback would be welcome in this process.
• We’ve not seen any planning application or permission for the proposed fencing or future use of the space, but that process will be managed by the Madrassa.

🟢 How you can stay involved:
• Fill in our short survey to share quick feedback and add your email if you’d like to stay updated. [https://forms.cloud.microsoft/r/CiQWaMRz1j?origin=lprLink]
• If you have any questions about the changes, you can contact the Madrassa directly at [email protected].

Thank you for continuing to care for and support the space. Any questions, feel free to to email us directly at [email protected]

✨ We have some exciting news to share! ✨

We’re delighted to announce that we’ve been awarded funding from The National Lottery Community Fund 🎉

This support means we can continue to sustain and grow two of our community groups:

🌿 The Hearth @ The Quad, Pollokshields
A monthly adult crafting group and community fire circle

🌱 The Hollow @ Bellahouston Park
A regular youth group for ages 12–16

We’re still finalising the details and will share more soon – but for now, we want to say a huge thank you to and to National Lottery players for making this possible. Your support helps us make our sessions more accessible and keep building creative, supportive spaces for our community. 💛
