The individual student is at the heart of my teaching practice, they are engaged with lessons and activities that relate to their interests, build confidence and increase skills. From 2007 to 2015 I delivered maths & English at Cornwall College and have tutored since 2011. My qualifications are a Diploma to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (DTLLS, the new Cert Ed) and a Diploma in Teaching Nu

meracy. You can have as many lessons as you wish, they will be tailored to your requirements and cost £20 - £25 per hour.

When this student started with me she was failing mock tests. Then, a few months later, she achieved a grade 7 !!

Happy International Day of Mathematics!
This year's theme is "Maths for a Better World".

Someone once dismissively assured me that the natural world emmits far more carbon than humans do. So I researched their statement and found these statistics from the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change).

You can add up all the emitting and then all the absorbing, work out the difference and decide if we are causing excessive carbon in the atmosphere.
(The figures are gigatons of carbon moving per year in 2004.)

Maths helps the facts become clearer.....

Great news...my lovely student Sumaya found out today that she has passed her GCSE maths!
I am especially proud of her hard work, because English is not her first language and maths words are confusing enough anyway!

Here’s a fun, entertaining, measuring game for families to enjoy with their children, while isolating....

• Each person estimates the length, weight or capacity (liquid volume) of the same household object. Draw a table to record each person’s guess.

• Next measure the object accurately and see who came closest.

• Investigate objects of different sizes. As the game progresses your estimates will get more accurate..... and more competitive!

For more of a challenge, convert the measurements into different units, as on the photo of the virtual whiteboard.

Online Maths and 11+ Lessons are Now Available!

Just click on a link, then the student & I will be able to see and hear each other, and both draw and write on a virtual white board.

Lessons will continue to be student centred, with a variety of activities, to keep developing those maths skills while the schools are closed. I can also help with any work that your school is sending you.
