We would like to share ( and show off! ) some of the Oak Room children's wonderful creations. This week, in honour of bees, the children have been cutting out hexagons and sticking them onto paper, to make a bee hive. They have helped to make and eaten honey cake as well explore how the bees make the honey. Using potatoes they have painted bees and added googly eyes. They look amazing, as do their painted still life flowers.
The learning that has taken place during these activities is fantastic - cutting skills, shape recognition, writing, cooking, exploring taste, nature, colour mixing and lots and lots of new words.
The previous week the children enjoyed the story The Rainbow Fish and made collage fish with some shiny scales. We added some green tissue paper for seaweed and all the display needs now is a Nemo!!

Next week in the Oak Room the children will be exploring the world of mini beasts. We have made a reusable Noughts and Crosses game using ladybird stones and butterflies and the children can correspond quantity to numeral in the bug den.
We will also be starting our journey on The Big Brush campaign, aimed at improving children's oral health. Children aged 4 before the 1 April and with consent from parents, will have their own toothbrush and will have supervised brushing after lunch. We have our Dentist Role Play to support this.

For the next two weeks in the Acorn Room the children will be exploring the world of dinosaurs with lots of opportunities to learn new words, use our imagination and talk about the world around us.
We have used natural resources for our interactive display including herbs from the garden making it even more sensory.
There is also a picture of our threading table. Threading helps children develop their hand and eye co-ordination as well as the skills they will need later for writing.
We wonder if they will be able to make a pattern with two colours of bobbins, will they spot the odd out, indeed can you? How many bobbins will they fit on? Is it long or short? Lots of lovely age appropriate maths learning.

Next week in the Oak Room the children will be celebrating the start of Spring with their own roleplay Garden Centre.
During the winter months the children celebrated Chinese New Year and Valentines Day with some beautiful art work of Cherry Blossom Trees and painted hearts. The look beautiful and worthy of any art gallery!

A busy few weeks here at Little Orchard and a wonderful time of year to explore colours and textures. The children in The Acorn Room have added to their Creations Board with spiky hedgehogs, bright shiny fireworks and orange pumpkins. The children also did gluing and printing to create autumn leaves for the tree, which looks stunning. The children also did potato printing to make some poppy pictures this week. From tomorrow it will be all things yellow and Pudsey Bear !!
Similarly in The Oak Room the children have been creating their own firework pictures on black paper which are very effective. We also introduced our "pet" dog who they voted to name Etty and we spoke to the children about looking after pets as they can be very scared of fireworks. This week they have made collage poppies which are gorgeous and we have talked to the children, in an age appropriate way, about their meaning.

Lots of Autumn and Halloween fun in the Oak Room this week. The children created a tempting menu for the Witches Kitchen and Julia Donaldson's story Room On The Broom is a firm favourite, especially engaging as the children can act out the story using the props.

The children at Little Orchard help Tina, our resident cook, prepare and make their snacks and lunch time desserts. Every day special helpers are chosen to be our sous chefs!
Today we had two little ones from The Acorn Room, proudly making cheese and tomato puff pastry swirls for our snack. Well done, they look delicious.

We are getting ready to welcome our new children in September and the Acorn Room, pictured here, is ready for our 2 year olds. We look forward to them filling up the " Our Creations " board as they explore colour and texture.
The Oak Rooms are in full swing at the moment with Holiday Club and the children have been enjoying a range of activities from Assault Courses and Football in the garden to Aeroplane making and flying. There have been quieter moments of various role play activities, construction and lots of creativity. We will add photographs of the Oak Room before the new term.
We currently have availability from September in the Oak Rooms - 3-4 year olds, and some spaces left in The Acorn Room. However with the new funding for 2 year olds I recommend that you get in touch soon if you would like a space.

The older children at Little Orchard have been exploring growth and Spring this term. They have enjoyed dressing up in all sizes of clothes and looking at the sequence of growing from a baby to an adult. We have also popped some cress seeds onto cotton wool and they are growing nicely.
Our Role Play area has been a florist and the children have been offering flowers to each other for all sorts of wonderful reasons and this has helped develop their care and concern for each other.
The weather has not been great but we have been out in the garden as much as possible and it has been lovely to see the Spring flowers popping up. The children have been painting and drawing still life pictures and we have seen some amazing creative artwork.
A day in the Oak Room can be very busy and so we have a cosy corner and encourage children, who need a little peace and quiet to visit this space and cuddle up with a teddy.
This week we have celebrated World Book Day every day, focussing on the amazing author Julia Donaldson. We have engaged the children using story sacks and story stones, as you can see in the photos.
We hope for some warmer weather soon and we can do even more learning outdoors, including learning to take slippers off and put shoes and coats on!

The Children in the Acorn Room have been very busy this term and have been exploring animals and their kingdoms. They have also enjoyed lots of sensory play and have a wonderful display of all their creations, including paintings of Spring flowers. They also learnt about shape and colour, as well as gluing and sticking, when they made their wonderful stained glass windows.
For World Book Day we have enjoyed a week of the popular series of books, That's Not My........... We have encouraged interaction with the stories and promoted focussing and listening by having props alongside the books.
We look forward to seeing the colours shining through the stained glass pictures when the sun eventually decides to come out!
