‘’Nik, how do you just stand up there and look so natural? I’d go to pieces.”
I get asked this daily.
And the funniest part to me is that people assume because I was on the telly, I must have always loved standing on a stage.
I didn’t.
For years I said no because I was scared.
I’d happily chat away on live TV, interview people, deal with the chaos of broadcasting… but ask me to stand on a stage as “me” and suddenly it felt completely different.
No autocue.
No team of work mates to hide behind.
No commercial breaks or co presenter to bounce off.
Just me … and eyeballs on me in the same room 😧
(And honestly… that felt scarier.)
I talk about this a lot more in my book because the biggest lesson I’ve learned after 20 years with a microphone in my hand is this…
Confidence isn’t something you magically wake up with - You build it.
By saying yes before you feel ready and doing the thing that scares you a little bit.
By realising you don’t need to become someone else to be brilliant.
In fact, the biggest shift in my career came when I stopped trying to be what I thought a “proper presenter” should be and started bringing more of ME.
The humour, energy, stories.
… and occasional chaos 😂
Turns out the thing I was toning down was actually my biggest asset.
Quite literally my money maker 🎤
So if you’re watching someone speak and thinking “I could never do that”…
Please know you’re probably only seeing the finished version - not the wobbles or the doubts, or the years of practice.
The person on stage wasn’t born there, they just bloody started.
I share the full story (and the tools that helped me) in my book Just Bloody Speak ❤️ link in bio.
And I’d love to know… what’s the bit about speaking that scares you most? I can help
Ask away too if you’ve anything coming up
Perfect is boring … bring on the bloopers, the quirky, the real, believe and trust that you’re enough and take a small brave step towards joy!
Notice the thing that’s been keeping you stuck … and stop letting it have a hold on you
Shout out to those inspiring me lately, new friends or interesting conversations I’ve found myself in

I’m thinking of bringing out a course on how to pose for photos … what do you think? 😂😂
I’ve always wondered how, and why, people know how to pose for photos and not feel like a prize plum .. any tips?
I’ve never cracked it and I feel like a Wolly when asked to have a photo.
This was me being super brave at an awards night that I’m hosting asking a stranger to take a photo of me 🫣😬🙃🤪😂
Help!!
Dress number 1 or 2?
I’m hosting a fancy awards doo tonight and I need your input
