Congratulations to The Wild Ones, which is the Waterstones Children’s Book of the Month for August. Y5 really enjoyed the opening chapters of this book with Mr Griffiths on their Stratford residential before bedtime so this dystopian thriller from the point of view of animals is definitely a book we’re recommending too 🐶 🐈 🦜 🐹 ⛈️ 📖

We hope our families are having a good summer so far. Mr Griffiths was delighted to have been asked to join the judging panel for The Week Junior Book Awards 2026 and now your child can also be involved in the judging too. There is a special Children’s Choice award where children can pick an overall winner from the entire shortlist. Voting is open until 4th September.

In Mrs Mitchell’s summer reading newsletter, we shared some of our recommended reads for this summer and here’s our complete line-up. With picture books, nearly independent chapter books, KS2 appropriate chapter books, non-fiction, graphic novels and diary-style stories, there is something for everyone 📚
Happy reading ☀️

Which books were we recommending to our pupils, staff and families during yesterday’s final assembly of the academic year?
📦 A Box Full of Murders: Death at the Museum (a brilliant whodunnit for Y4+ where you’ve got to sift through the evidence to solve the crime)
🐉 Dragonflare (we love Jamie Hammond and this story gets the reader involved in activities to help the story. Perfect for Y3+)
⚽️ Save Like a Keeper (a great non-fiction book for those children who want to develop their goalkeeping skills)
🦑 Squid Bits! That’s a Nice Hat! (a hilariously bonkers graphic novel)
🌺 The Diary of Wiska Wildflower: The Crystal Cave (a fun early chapter book for Y1+ exploring friendships & jealousy)
🇮🇳🇵🇰 The Line (a really important picture book exploring Partition and what it meant for the people living there)

Our CHESWICK Way assembly today was a wonderful end to our school year and a great celebration of our school values where the following children were awarded one of our CHESWICK Way awards for the qualities they regularly show:
Curious – Frankie
Honest – Jack
Enthusiastic – Grace
Safe – Leyana
Working Together – Austin
Independent – Sofia
Committed – Brooklyn
Kind – Ivy
Congratulations as well to Jack in Y5 who was the winner of our end of year attendance prize 🥳 Unfortunately, there was a delay with Mrs Turner’s prizes for all those children in the 99+% club so we’ll make sure the children get this as soon as we return to school in September.

What a great week of learning it’s been in EYFS this week: Reception had a fantastic day at Hatton Country World to consolidate their learning about life cycles and then Pre-School, Nursery and Reception came together for their Bug Ball celebrations 🐛 🐜 🐞 🥳

Thanks to Amber and Theo being both the winner & runner-up of a national creative writing competition from S&S Children's Books they won some Postman Planet books for both themselves and our school library plus we got to meet the series’ award-winning author, Ben Davis. Y2-5 loved meeting Ben and learning not only what it was like to be an author but also about his day-to-day job as a postman ✉️ 🚀 📚 Now we know Ben does all the voices for the audiobooks, we’re sure they’ll be popular books to listen to over the summer 📻
Thanks for visiting us Ben Davis

We are excited for the children to attend these brilliant residentials again.
