How does the Free School Meals expansion affect your HAF eligibility?

With Free School Meals (FSM) expanding to all children in households receiving Universal Credit, we want to share an update on HAF and whether your child is eligible for a funded place.

⚠️ Your child will only be eligible for a HAF place if your household meets the Targeted Free School Meal criteria, including the £7,400 household income threshold.

While many more children will become eligible for FSM, this does not automatically mean they are eligible for HAF programmes.

From clear learning objectives to engaging activities, this lesson plan is designed to support progression, confidence and meaningful language learning in the primary classroom.

Created by one of our MFL subject specialists, the lesson includes:

👉 Using actions to make learning dynamic and memorable
👉 A bingo game to develop listening skills
👉 Repetition and speaking activities to help pupils practise new vocabulary
👉 Opportunities to use numbers in different ways throughout the lesson

By the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to read and say the numbers 0–10 in Spanish with greater confidence.
