Some parents tell me their child finds creative writing challenging. I love this article by Dr Aliza Pressman, as she give refreshing advice on supporting children and their imagination. Which of her tips is your favourite?

Your Kid’s Imagination Isn’t a Phase. It’s Everything.
Here’s how to protect it.

Enjoying some refreshing watermelon and chilled coconut water after finishing my last lesson of the day with a lovely group of Year 5 students!
With the outside temperature reaching 33°C today, I did my best to keep the tutoring room as cool as possible. The awning was out, the curtains were drawn, and the fan was on, bringing the room temperature down to 28°C.
Despite the heat, the students stayed focused and worked brilliantly as we explored finding common factors. A great effort from everyone on a very warm day!

Sometimes the biggest achievements happen before the results arrive…
With SATs results day approaching, there is understandably a lot of excitement and anticipation.
But a lovely parent recently reminded me of something very important.
She originally planned to wait for her daughter’s SATs results before leaving her Google review, but then realised the results no longer felt like the most important part of the journey.
What mattered most was seeing her daughter grow in confidence:
- Recognising how much she already knew
- Developing resilience when things felt challenging
- Believing in herself a little more each week
This is why I love tutoring. Yes, supporting children academically is important, but helping them become confident, independent learners is an achievement that goes far beyond exam preparation.
Thank you so much for your incredibly kind words and for trusting me to be part of your daughter’s learning journey. 🩷
To all the Year 6 children waiting for their results, remember that one assessment does not define you. Be proud of how far you have come.

One of my Year 6 pupils recently came to me feeling completely overwhelmed by long division.
“There are just too many steps. I’ll never remember them all,” she said.
So we slowed things right down.
We broke it into small, manageable steps, and worked carefully through each one and looking at where every number comes from and why it goes where it does.
After just a couple of examples, she paused and said:
“Oh, I get it now… this is much easier than in school.”
The following lesson, I gave her two long division questions.
She completed both confidently and even explained each step back to me.
When her mum arrived to pick her up, she beamed and said:
“I’ve mastered long division!” 😊
This is what building confidence and independence in maths looks like.
If your child is feeling stuck or overwhelmed, I’d love to help them find that same confidence.
