Our Auschwitz ambassadors, Ethan and Will, flew to Poland yesterday to visit Auschwitz Birkenau, the first concentration camp to be liberated by Russian soldiers in 1945.
On their return to school the next day, Will described his visit to his teachers and was particularly moved by the speech of a rabbi, who told the story of his families' experience during the Holocaust.
Will and Ethan both felt the impact of this museum today, which highlighted to them the importance of this historical place in remembering the past, to learn for the future.
Next week, Ethan and Will are attending a seminar to reflect on their trip and next month will share their experience with the rest of Year 12.
The students showed great maturity and empathy and represented the sixth form so well and we're looking forward to hearing of their experience soon.

Welcome to the Year of the Snake! ๐๐
As the Chinese New Year festivities begin, marking the start of 15 days of celebration, here at Light Hall Sixth Form, we would like to wish all our students, families, and staff a joyful, successful, and prosperous year ahead! The Year of the Snake represents wisdom, intuition, and transformation โ values that we can share as a fantastic reminder of the growth and opportunities that lie ahead. We hope that the coming year sees all our students realising their potential and continuing their paths to a bright and fulfilling future.
This weekend, festivities take place in Birmingham City Centre, with processions and performances throughout the day at Bullring & Grand Central on Sat 1 Feb alongside a craft market, funfairs and street food in Southside ahead of a packed day on Sun 2 Feb in Southside at the heart of the celebrations on Hippodrome Square.

This week, our A Level Psychology students took a trip to Birmingham Magistrates Court to support their learning of eye witness testimonials and memory.
Students sat in a real trial and saw first-hand eyewitness testimonials. They had a Q&A with a magistrate and a guided tour around the courts. Students found the experience invaluable and it demonstrated where there education could take them.

Did you know that we offer A-Level Art?
This is what our A-Level Art teacher, Miss Bailey, says about the course: 'A-Level Art provides a platform for creative development, enabling students to hone their artistic skills and explore a wide range of mediums, techniques, and styles. This
fosters the cultivation of a unique artistic voice.'
Students get 5 hours of teacher-led lesson time for each subject, which means more time for feedback and use of the School's resources. Mia also uses the computer rooms in her study period to edit her photography work using design software.
Mia is a very talented Art student, who is also studying A-Level History and A-Level Design Technology.

We were very excited to welcome last week to get some footage for our video to showcase life and learning at Light Hall Sixth Form.
Many students demonstrated practicals, their work and answered questions in an interview about their experiences so far.
We can't wait to see how it turns out and our students represented themselves and the Sixth Form so well, thank you for all your efforts.

Recently, our Year 12 Students met with a local Criminal Barrister, currently working on a case at Worcester Combined Court.
He discussed his route through soliciting and now working with clients facing serious criminal charges. He gave them practical advice on finding work experience and the skills that employers and Universities are looking for when awarding placements in an industry in high demand.
We're looking forward to welcoming him back next year and working with him to inspire our Law and Criminology students next year!
If you're interested in studying law, we offer many subjects that would support you, including:
A-Level Law
A-Level Criminology
A-Level Sociology
A-Level Politics
A-Level English Language
A-Level History
All of our students study 3 A-Levels, you may only need one of the above subjects to study a Law degree. After you apply, we can offer you advice as to which subjects may be best for you if you have a particular destination in mind.
For more information on each of these subjects, please visit our website: https://www.lighthall.co.uk/student-support/a-level-subjects/.
