Long Close School

Long Close School We are the only Independent School in Slough that provides an outstanding education to boys and girls. For me, it’s the word ‘happy’ that matters most.

'This is a happy school.' Those were the first words written about Long Close in our most recent school inspection report. The inspectors also made repeated use of the word ‘outstanding’ – to describe the education we provide, the personal development of our children, our commitment to health and safety, the way we run the school, and the quality of our nursery. It was something I noticed the firs

t time I visited the school. Everyone is pleased to be here. Teachers, pupils and parents greet each other with smiles and respect. The children are known by their first names. Doors are held open. Classrooms are filled with purpose. I now realise that this happiness is built into the culture of the school. It comes from the unusual amount of individual attention we choose to give our pupils. Our combination of small class sizes and excellent teachers means that we are better placed than other schools to find out what makes each child tick. We identify individual potential and nurture it so that all of our children can make the very most of themselves. It’s an approach that fosters an atmosphere of endeavour, ambition and personal fulfilment. The benefits are evident. Our academic results, for example, are excellent – in SATs, the 11+, Common Entrance and GCSEs. But there’s another measure of success that matters more. It’s that Long Close ‘adds value’; on average, children make more progress here than they would at other schools. That, I think, is the true measure of a successful school – and a happy one. Just some of the GCSE highlights that we continue to celebrate! 🎓💫

Over a quarter of all grades were achieved at Grade 8 (A*) or above, with nearly double the number of Grade 9s compared with last year. These results reflect the hard work and commitment of our students, alongside the support and dedication of their teachers.

We wish all our Year 11 students every success as they move on to the next stage of their education. 🎓💫

We are incredibly proud of Kiaan in Year 9 who was selected for the 2026 Bunbury Cricket Festival!

After four rounds of trials held over four different days, Kiaan was selected for the South & West Regional Squad - one of just 12 players chosen from a very strong field of talented young cricketers.

And what an achievement at Bunbury! Kiaan finished the festival as the leading wicket-taker for his squad, taking an impressive 7 wickets for his team. 👏

Even more impressive is that Kiaan is playing up in his year group, making this achievement all the more special.

We couldn’t be prouder of you, Kiaan! Keep working hard, keep believing in yourself and, most importantly, keep enjoying your cricket. 💙🏏

🎓💫Congratulations to the Long Close Class of 2026 – your GCSE results day is finally here!

With over a quarter of all grades at 8 (A*) and above, the results are a remarkable achievement at Long Close. This year’s students are to be highly commended on achieving nearly double the amount of grade 9s, the very top grade, compared with last year’s results. This significant increase in top grades is testament to the dedication and hard work of the students and the incredible relationship they share with the teachers at Long Close. A huge congratulations to all!

We are so incredibly proud of all your hard work and your wonderful achievements and we wish you every success as you move on to the next stage in your education.🎓💫

What don’t the numbers tell us? 🤔
With GCSE Results Day tomorrow, it’s a good time to think about what exam results really tell us — and what they don’t.
In the latest Redshift Radio Podcast, Timothy Fisher, Chairman of the National Association of Examinations Officers (NAEO) and Redshift Education, chats with our Deputy Head and Examinations Officer, Andy Bowden, about the bigger picture behind exam results.
Results can tell us what a pupil has remembered and shown in an exam. But they don’t always show how well they can:
✨ Problem-solve
✨ Apply what they know
✨ Think creatively
✨ Use technology
✨ Show initiative
✨ Ask questions
✨ Stay curious
At Long Close, these skills matter just as much as academic achievement. We want our pupils to be confident thinkers, question the world around them and, most importantly, stay curious.
And one thing that really stands out to Timothy when he spends time with our pupils? Curiosity.
Because sometimes, the best question you can ask is simply:
“Why?”
🎙️ You can hear the full conversation with Andy and Timothy on Redshift Radio, available on YouTube and other podcast platforms.

📸🌿 Since launching our exciting Science Wildlife Photography Competition back in April, our students were very busy in the summer term showcasing their photography skills by capturing ‘Nature in Action’.

We have been really impressed by the quality, creativity, and variety of the entries submitted. From fascinating wildlife moments to beautiful scenes from nature, every photograph has demonstrated a real passion for the natural world.
A huge well done to everyone who took part-we’re so proud of your amazing work! 👏💚
