Let’s find Mr Superworm!!🪱

Today we read the book Superworm, following from this we thought about digging for Mr Superworm in our mud pit!

We used our gross and fine motor skills by digging, scooping, pulling and using our tools incorporating our hand-eye coordination. We also used our understanding of the world skills by learning that worms live in soil and the difference between wet and dry mud.

We used our communication and language as we talk about what we can see and find such as worms, soil, damp, and dry. We used our personal, social and emotional skills as we share our resources with our friends, encourage independence and taking in turns.

🐲🩺 Interactive Story Time 🐲🩺

Today the children took part in a Zog and the flying doctors interactive story time. After the children had enjoyed listening to the story together, they used their expressive arts and design skills and their fine motor skills to explore the different textures of the items they could see within our book.

They enjoyed engaging and taking part using the items within the story together as they listened to the adult reading developing their literacy skills and personal social and emotional skills.

A squash and a squeeze!

Yesterday our children explored their mathematics skills extending on from the Julia Donaldson story ‘A squash and a squeeze’

The story talks about how a little old lady’s house feels so small, so one by one she takes in a farm animal, as they slowly get bigger in size her house feels smaller and smaller, in the end the wise old man tells her to take all the animals out to her surprise makes her once small house feel pretty big!

We started our experiment by all holding hands and seeing what it feels like to squeeze, gently squeezing each others hands.
The children then used different lose part materials to see if we could squeeze or squash them in our hands talking about if it was too hard or soft.
The children then placed all the lose parts in different sized pots and containers and had to figure out if the items needed removing or if they would squeeze inside to close the lid!

This was such a lovely idea for the children to explore their mathematics skills with such a hands on physical approach keeping them fully engrossed throughout!

Stick-man 🕺🌳

Today, the children enjoyed reading the story Stick Man and were inspired to use their expressive arts and design skills to create their own Stick Man using sticks and Play-Doh.
This fun activity supported the children’s PSED as they practised taking turns and sharing resources with their friends. Their communication and language skills were encouraged as they talked about what they could see, shared their ideas and discussed their next steps.
The activity also supported their fine and gross motor development as the children used their pincer grip to hold and manipulate the resources while bending, stretching and reaching to collect what they needed. The children also developed their mathematical skills through measuring ingredients, counting resources and recognising different colours.

Today we role-played the Julia Donaldson book ‘the singing mermaid’!

We used our gross motor skills by lifting resources such as chairs and our cardboard to make our boat, we also used our fine motor skills by using sticky tape to connect our boat and finding other resources around the room to use as our wheel.

We used our literacy skills and communication and language skills as we read our book, along with positional language. We also developed our understanding of the world as we all spoke about what we can see in the sea and what we have done when visiting the beach and if we’ve ever found a singing mermaid.

We loved sharing roles and playing different characters from the book.

⚓️🛳️☀️Summer cruise

Today to finish up our summer topic, the children created their own Just Imagine nursery boat where the children used all they had learn throughout the month to role-play a summer cruise holiday.

The children used their expressive arts and design skills as well as their gross motor skills to help construct our boat using cardboard for the boat and blue materials for the water. They showed off their understanding of the summer and their speech and language skills as they talked about all the sea animals they can see and where they are going on their holidays such as the beach or park as they looked through the telescope.

🚒🔥Fire Fighters 🚒🔥

Finishing up our topic of the month ‘Summer ☀️’
Today, the children enjoyed dressing up as firefighters and putting out a pretend fire. Through this fun activity, the children learned about fire safety and the dangers of hot weather and how to keep as safe as possible.

The activity supported the children’s PSED skills as they took turns, shared resources and worked together as a team. They developed their communication and language skills by talking about firefighters, their roles and how they put out fires. Their fine and gross motor skills were supported through actions such as fastening Velcro, adjusting hats, picking up small objects, carrying equipment, bending, reaching and moving around. The children also developed their mathematical skills by counting the materials they needed.
They increased their literacy knowledge by asking critical thinking questions such as ‘why does this happen?’ Followed by ‘what do you think happens next?’ as they develop more of their understanding of the world as they learn about the jobs of firefighters and how to stay safe around fire and during hot weather. Finally, their expressive arts and design skills were encouraged as they used their imagination to create their own fire emergency and role-play the important job of a firefighter.

Welcome to the carnival!

Another year spent doing exciting activities to enhance our development.

Adding in something new, our Photo Booth! This was a huge hit with our little stars! Giving them the responsibility to take their own Polaroid pictures of each other along showing mutual respect for each other and their resources. The children loved this as they got to play around and be silly and have their pictures instantly printed and added to the photo wall. This really got their social and emotional skills going!

The other activities really helped with the children’s gross motor skills as they had to throw the bean bags, sponges and balls at and into other objects to gain the goal.
The clown activity also helped both PSE and gross motor as children worked together to get the ball (nose) in the clowns face.

We also enjoyed hot dogs and chips and some popcorn to go towards our understanding of the world and how other people celebrate during festivals and carnivals.

It really was a spectacular day, despite the wind making the games much more difficult this also helped with our children’s characteristics of effeolesrning as they activity learnt that they must persist even when challenges occur.

Today I turn the big 30!

I’m currently in Disneyland!🥹

So we had to celebrate early!
Tuesday that’s exactly what I did with the most amazing people around me.

We danced, we sang, we drove everyone insane with party blowers. 🤣

The decorations were absolutely stunning! along with the most delicious food prepared by Kemi and her sister. I was even in a full personalised Nigerian party style outfit!
I cannot thank you both enough for the most perfect time!

I want to also say a huge thank you to my team for everything they also did to make sure I had the most amazing celebration. I know it must have been hard with my list making and stressing to keep everything quiet 🤣🤣 I really do have the most beautiful people alongside me.

And also thank you so so much to my wonderful families for the cards and gifts. You’re all so thoughtful and I’m so grateful.

I appreciate everything so much from everyone who made so much effort on the day. I feel so valued and loved as I start my journey in my thirties 🫶🏻🩷

Today we enjoyed dressing up the babies, so we thought we could extend this by dressing them up in appropriate clothing for our season summer!!☀️

In this activity we used our fine motor skills by handling clothes, putting nappies on and using our hand-eye coordination, we also used our communication and language by talking about what will keep us safe in the sun such as hats, sun cream and sunglasses.

We used our mathematics skills by counting clothes, matching shoes and socks and comparing sizes.

This activity helped us develop our understanding of the world skills by having knowledge of wearing light clothes in warm weather. We used our expressive arts and design skills as we role-play home life routines and switch roles.
