One week into the new school year and this is exactly when the good intentions start to slip.

The first week runs on adrenaline. Week two is where routines are actually made.

1. Bedtime creeps - move it back gradually and keep wake-up times consistent, even at weekends.

2. One quiet homework spot, stocked and ready so starting takes zero willpower.

3. Screen-time limits agreed together; children hold limits far better when they helped set them.

Schools are banning phones… and teaching AI. Both are true.

The UAE has made AI a compulsory subject from kindergarten to 18, taught through projects with no written exams. Dubai is rolling AI modules into Maths, Science and English. US states and Beijing are moving too.

And here in the UK: the reformed national curriculum will make AI and digital literacy compulsory across key stages, with a new computing qualification covering AI and data skills.

Sound like a contradiction after all the phone bans? It isn’t. Schools are switching off passive scrolling and teaching deliberate skills instead.

And the bit nobody says out loud: AI literacy runs on the fundamentals. Spotting when AI gets maths wrong takes real maths. Questioning what it writes takes strong English. Strong foundations first; that has been the Boost Education way since 2008.
