Please Support your Childminder!
So, let me get this straight β¦
I have been dictated to by the Government and DfE:
β’ I have remained open and working through the whole of the pandemic.
β’ Where we have had a suspected COVID case within my family, we have been FORCED to shut until a negative PCR test received or end of predetermined self-isolation β again losing income.
β’ I have provided childcare for key/critical workers and turned away families in desperate need of childcare because they are not part of the key/critical list as set by the Government/DfE.
β’ I have lost children due to the 2-setting rule, where the parent must choose one or other setting and cannot use 2.
β’ I have cancelled time booked off pre-COVID and worked longer hours to provide much needed support to the families I was allowed to provide childcare for.
β’ I have lost families and earnings due to the Government restrictions.
β’ I have had to report any COVID case as a βserious incidentβ β this is kept on our Ofsted records!
β’ I have (tried to!) read the minimum 3 or 4 emails received, daily for the first year of the pandemic! to keep up with current information, restrictions and rules that have been set β often with conflicting information, usually received after 5pm and no one to contact to clarify!
β’ I have submitted daily, weekly and monthly number statistics as required by the Government, DfE or the Council.
β’ I have received SEISS grants that was for 3 months β it didnβt cover 1 monthβs standard household bills and business expenses β and it was late in being agreed at the start and then was paid in arrears.
I have done everything you asked of me and more to support families and follow the rules you have set!
And now you are telling me β¦
β’ I can accept children into my home with COVID?
β’ But if I or any of my household members has COVID, I have to shut?
β’ But any family member can still go to work with COVID?
β’ And that this rule only applies to childminders β NOT preschools, nurseries or schools?
I know that EVERY Early Years Team are arguing this with Government and DfE, and while we continue working and wait for the response, we are, once again, left in limbo waiting to inform parents of new policy.
In the meantime, I will be signing the petition, link below, and ask that anyone who has ever used a childminder or wishes to support us, could please do the same.
Despite the easing of restrictions announced by the government as part of plans to 'live with Covid', guidance for childminding professionals in England still states that they should not operate if they have positive or suspected Covid-19 case in their household. Please take a moment to ask your MP....
