The family that plays together stays together!

What do you think - could there be some truth in this?
When life starts to feel heavy and tiring, it usually feels counterintuitive to make time to play. And I usually don't turn to playfulness if I'm honest. But once I do I never regret it!

Today I made time for us to get outside and play. My daughter chose to make a treasure hunt for the boys and we got Daddy away from his desk for 10 minutes of laughter, problem solving and chocolate.
Then they naturally gravitated towards our collection of loose part playthings and invented games with a rainbow parachute, ball and a couple of beanbags

Lots of happy bonding oxytocin left us all feeling good! You're never to old to play!

๐Ÿ’กHave you made time to play this week? What does being playful look like for you? Do share below! ๐Ÿ‘‡

RAISING CHANGEMAKERS!

Loved watching my solution-hunting family in action last week in the hot, sunny weather!
Due to a nearby wasp nest we couldn't eat outside as we had an abundance of wasps after our food and drinks ๐Ÿค”

First my husband got creative and made some wasp traps out of recycled materials but they didnt work and we were stuck inside.
So my daughter went solution hunting and decided to make the traps more attractive by emulating nature with some 3D flowers. It was amazing to watch her refine and test out her ideas! ๐Ÿฅฐ

The weather this summer seems to have been more extreme in so many parts of the world with heatwave, floods and forest fires affecting so many.

The world we are raising our children in is increasingly uncertain and volatile. We can either worry for our children or raise them up as creative, courageous, resilient changemakers ready to tackle the issues that affect their communities and the wider world. I'm choosing the latter - what about you?! ๐Ÿ˜‰

๐Ÿ’กWhat weather did you experience this summer? Did you come up any creative solutions to challenges or see any in your community? Would love to hear! ๐Ÿ‘‡

Yay we celebrated our move last weekend with family!
We did it!
Loved how my two created signs and a fun treasure hunt that got everyone exploring the garden!

Creativity has taken a back seat this month and that hasn't felt great if I'm honest. Theres been lots of solution hunting and exploring, but not enough playfulness and creating for me at least.

However ... when driving home today I took a rare moment to acknowledge the courage and determination it's taken to make this vision of a new phase a reality!
New adventures await us here!

๐Ÿ’กAre you feeling creative this month? If not, like me, is there something small you can do to take action and kickstart your creativity and learning in the month ahead?! Do share below ๐Ÿ‘‡

This boy loves his flowers. I always smile as he smashes that stereotype of WI flower arrangers - women of a certain age in floral prints ๐Ÿ˜†

Love it when the next generation create with no limits!

Read such a great story on Facebook from The Devonshire Shepherdess this morning on how she's raising up the next generation in the farming community to flourish. No stereotyping there either! Its here ๐Ÿ‘‰https://www.facebook.com/adevonshireshepherdess

Meanwhile... enjoy the flower and dont forget to stop and smell them this weekend! ๐Ÿ˜‰

'You have a big future ahead and can do amazing things'!

My son wrote these words as part of a letter to a little 5 year old boy who shares his name just starting school back in September ๐Ÿฅฐ. My heart swelled when I read this beautiful message today!

My son understands the potential inside this young child AND that he can do amazing things right now!

Sometimes all a child needs is one person to believe in them, to tell them that they are special, unique and talented, and to help them uncover and develop their gifts. I dream of a world where every child knows their worth and steps into their potential!

๐Ÿ’ก Who could you encourage today? When was the last time you stopped and appreciated yourself in all your glorious uniqueness?!

๐Ÿงœโ€โ™€๏ธ For further inspiration I recommend following with its wonderful vision of 'A world which unlocks the infinite potential of every child'

What a great Wild Wednesday - from observing the tiniest of crickets right up to curious Exmoor ponies and rare British cattle.

Time in nature is part of our family DNA; it allows us to be curious lifelong learners together. Nature in all its beauty and infinite wonder always has something new to show us; today a couple of new insect species! We become mindful and drop into the present as we lose a sense of time, allowing ourselves to be drawn along whichever paths we choose with no agenda.

The best bit? My 10 year old took and held my hand for ages ๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿ˜† without even realising!

And the ladybird love is still real!

CREATIVITY and PASSIONS

My daughter has a thing about all things miniature! I love the insights we get into children's passions and imaginations - it all comes together when they create! ๐Ÿ’ž

She decided to make a Lottie Doll tea party scene - its stunning! All recycled materials except for the Fimo I bought.

Days of work ...

๐Ÿ’— Sculpting miniature food
๐Ÿ’—Using fabric to make napkins, tablecloths and curtains
๐Ÿ’— Designing and constructing the set - pictures, window (I collaborated on the wallpaper!)
๐Ÿ’—Finding a solution to a functional curtain pole
๐Ÿ’— My favourite - she designed a light with a switch that WORKS!

I challenged her to make a film - so watch this space for her first reel! (Let's hope it works otherwise I'll be solution hunting with technology and noticing uncomfortable emotions for sure!!)

We both love and inspired by the stunning miniature work of discovered via

Raising 'Solution Hunters'!

I am passionate about raising and equipping children to be confident problem solvers. .. or as the brilliant calls them... Solution hunters!!

The world in which we are raising children is changing faster than ever before- its uncertain, complex and unpredictable, yet I feel we can have hope as children have the most brilliant curious capable minds.

I believe its imperative we nurture and enable the next generation to think creatively, think outside the box and be confident in solving complex problems.

Why? Because they deserve to thrive, play a meaningful role in their communities and contribute to solving the problems we face ... whether that's climate change, sustainability or harnessing AI for the good of the planet. Academic success alone is simply not enough any more.

What does that have to do with a child flying on a broomstick you may be thinking?! ๐Ÿ˜†

Creativity! When the creative process of making the broomstick finally got finished, he immediately posed himself a new challenge to solve:
How could he create an image of himself that made it look as if he were doing the impossible... flying through the air?!

Cue the ideas flowing, multiple attempts, tweaking, collaborating, persisting....

It was playful and it was creative!

If we allow children to play, create and experiment in this way then we create the conditions for them to flourish and develop the mindset and problem d skills they need to lead change!

๐Ÿ’ก I love to use the term 'Solution hunters' in our family conversations! It's part of our vocabulary now even if it does challenge me at times! What do you think? Do you prefer Solution Hunter or Problem Solver?! Do tell me below! ๐Ÿ‘‡

Child-led creativity!

Someone is reading Lord of the Rings and spent hours with my italic pen creating a beautiful code. That's as much as I understand anyway! ๐Ÿ˜‚ Love these insights into childrens imagination we get when we just step back and let them create!

The lines between literature, language, maths and coding blurred as he creates (who made up those boundaries anyway?!)

My part - to singe the edges of the paper after the teabag treatment to give an antique look . Total failure- I set the whole page alight and had to drop it in the kitchen sink! ๐Ÿ˜‚ Thank goodness this was before he started writing!

๐Ÿ’ก Have you created anything recently? Messed up like I did?!

Such an important part of the creative process (and how we react to our mistakes with compassion, humour and renewed effort!)

PLAY & CREATIVITY
I didnt share this last week as I thought it was a bit too ... idyllic? ... Insta-perfect? I always said I'd be real here!

Reality was yes they did ask for old sheets to make a den and they did spend hours in it crafting, reading, eating. And my heart swelled at times ๐Ÿฅฐ

Behind the scenes though the reality was I wasn't very engaged with them some days and I missed their company and just 'Being'. We are preparing to move house. And I'm becoming pretty preoccupied with stuff to do. Too preoccupied perhaps ๐Ÿ˜‚

Change! Change leads to growth I know and new opportunities. I've had a vision for the next stage of our family life for a while and I've taken decisive action to move us. But am having to work really hard at staying in the present, rather than overthinking everything ๐Ÿ˜‚. And put into practice 'getting comfortable with the uncomfortable'.
So forgive me if I'm not here as much as I'd like to be!

๐Ÿ’ก Do inspire me with your stories of courage and change - would love to hear them ๐Ÿ‘‡

CREATIVITY AND SELF-BELIEF!
G's friend, G and T have blown me away today! They came home with a fully- fledged plan and order list to make custom bracelets.

They totally 100% believe in their ability to create and sell their products and wow are they going for it! No procrastinating - we have so much to learn from children! Courage, self belief and action all the way!

They've worked through all kinds of obstacles in the creating, alongside discussing pricing and how to market. My son spent 2 hours on their advertising leaflet and they are starting their own business! So much learning going on here!

This is entrepreneurial original creativity in action!
