Year 4 visited Nene Valley Railway as part of their Victorian topic where this term they focus on the Industrial Revolution and how it impacted the lives of every day people. Children were able to visit the signal box and the engine shed, had a lesson given by NVR staff and got to travel by rail to Peterborough and back to Wansford on a passenger train - a first for some of our children. A fantastic way to introduce our history unit and bring learning to life!
Look at all of the Lego club creations last term! Well done to all of the children and thank you to Mrs Clifford for running the club.

We have had some super Mission Possible Days where the children have really shown their Growth Mindset and resilience. The children all took part in a Ninja Skipping Workshop and completed other challenges in their classes. Thank you to Mrs Saunders for organising the event. Well done everyone!

It's Trophy Tuesday! Issy has been awarded a trophy for the highest scoring white belt in Korean Martial Arts. She also has two gold medals for performance and technique as well as a bronze medal for opening form.
It's not quite a trophy, but we were really impressed with Rueben's 3D printed book mark which he has designed himself. He wanted it to reflect the Alvey and is planning on giving one to his teacher. How thoughtful!
Well done to both of you! We are very proud!

Just before the half term break, while Year 6 were at Hilltop, 9 eager members of Year 4 and Year 5 competed at the Carres Grammar Sports Partnership cricket competition. For some, this was their first experience of playing cricket competitively, but they made a strong start, winning their first 3 games. Each member of the squad contributed to the team’s success by taking key wickets, scoring valuable runs or taking crucial catches! After a narrow defeat to the eventual winners, Navenby, and a delay due to an Air Ambulance helicopter landing on the cricket field (the highlight of the day!), we headed into the 3rd vs 4 play-off match. After a stunning catch by Alfie, demon bowling by Teddy and some huge hitting by Rohan and Isaac, the team won their final match to finish in 3rd place. The whole team represented the Alvey brilliantly throughout the day and demonstrated true Alvey values! Well done.

Art Club’s “Under the Sea” creations are looking fabulous. The children used a mixture of sponge painting, printing, watercolours, powder paints and collage techniques to build up their pieces over three weeks. They were so proud of their finished results!

The Year 6 Staycation children had a lot of fun on the last few days of term. They enjoyed lots of creative activities and made the most of the weather with a water fight. Thank you to Mrs Sweeney for organising it all.

Last term, Year 5 have been making wire sculptures of insects in art. Mrs Reynolds spotted the artist Shaun Thomas’ work on social media and the team thought he’d be an excellent inspiration to the children. Sadly he was unable to come into school, but in conversation with Mrs Reynolds he said he was, “Chuffed and flattered,” to have been chosen as their inspiration. He asked to be kept up to date with their progress and wanted to see their final pieces. The children are rightly very proud of their creations and photos have been sent to Mr Thomas.
Well if the children and adults in school weren't awake on our first day back, they are now! The Skipping Ninja has been launched with a special performance as part of our Mission Possible Days! Children will have the opportunity to take part in a skipping workshop over the next two days which will encourage them to try their best and use their Growth Mindset.
