Mrs Purchase’s class have made a fantastic start to their new Rocks and Soils science topic with an exciting hands-on investigation! The children became rock detectives, carefully examining a range of different rocks and thinking about how they could describe and compare them. Using magnifying glasses, the children looked closely at the rocks, observing their colour, texture, grains and different features. They then investigated the hardness of the rocks by carefully scratching them and comparing which rocks were easier or more difficult to scratch. The children also explored how rocks can react to different substances. They added drops of water to observe what happened and used acid (vinegar) to investigate whether the rocks would react. The children also explored what happened when rocks were submerged in water. They were very excited to see bubbles appearing from some of the rocks, particularly the sandstone. It was a fantastic opportunity for the children to make observations, ask questions and begin thinking like real scientists! 🌟

This morning, after arriving early at school and, without any prompting or being asked, Charlie decided to clear up the rubbish he saw on Gregson Green.
It is such a lovely thing to see and a wonderful example of our school values in action. 💚
We're proud of Charlie for showing real initiative, respect and care for his community, and even better, he felt a real sense of pride in what he had achieved — and rightly so! 👏
Well done, Charlie! 🌱💚

It’s our very first Trophy Tuesday!
Jenson was awarded his 25-metre swimming badge over the summer — well done, Jenson! 🏊‍♂️
Charlie has a fantastic collection of trophies and medals to celebrate. He received a medal for a ‘standout’ moment in a cricket match, where he ran a batsman out while playing for his Under 11s team. He also received a medal and dish for showing the spirit of cricket at his Sleaford club. What a brilliant achievement, Charlie! 🏏
Millie has received a rather large trophy for being named the most improved athlete at her dance club. She also received a 100% attendance certificate, a scholarship for the term, and a medal and certificate for participation. What an amazing set of achievements, Millie! 💃🏆
You may remember that Kirsty was planning to donate her hair to the Little Princess Trust at the end of last year. Over the summer, she did just that — and she also managed to raise an incredible £1,443 for the charity! What a brilliant achievement, Kirsty! We are incredibly proud of you. ❤️

A big happy birthday to Benjamin for last week, and thank you so much for his lovely birthday book! 📚🎉
For our new parents, some families choose to bring in a ‘birthday book’ instead of sweets on their child’s birthday. The book then stays with the class for everyone to enjoy reading, and a special label is placed inside the cover to show who donated it.

❄️ Big news! Our classrooms ALL have air conditioning! ❄️
As temperatures start to warm up slightly today, our children and staff are already feeling the benefits — even if a few members of staff are having a friendly disagreement over who gets to control the remote! 😂
On a serious note, if temperatures rise again, we feel incredibly lucky that all of our classrooms will remain cool, comfortable and welcoming. This investment will make a real difference to the wellbeing of both our children and staff, helping everyone to stay comfortable, focused and ready to learn.
We’re very pleased to be keeping our whole Alvey team cool! 💙

We’ve had a wonderful first day back at the Alvey! 🌟
It’s been brilliant to see all of the children back and settling in so happily. A huge thank you to all of our parents and carers for making the children look so smart. Their uniforms really do help them feel part of the best team! 💙
We even had a special visit from ‘Teddy’ in Reception as our youngest children met their Year 5 buddies. There have certainly been lots of smiles, excitement and happy faces today! 🧸😊
What a fantastic start to the new school year!
