𝗔 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗷𝗼𝗯 — 𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗹 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗽 𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁.
This Denis Wick 4X trumpet mouthpiece arrived extremely worn, with the plating almost gone. After full preparation, we applied a 𝗰𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗸𝗲 to create an even foundation, followed by 𝗽𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗱𝗶𝘂𝗺 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 - a specialist finish rarely offered for brass mouthpieces and one we haven’t seen other UK workshops promote.

Palladium’s extreme hardness, natural tarnish‑resistance and smooth feel make it an ideal barrier layer. It protects the gold from fading over time and keeps the finish bright for longer. We’re also hearing more and more comments from players that palladium seems to give a cleaner slotting of notes and a more centred feel. While every player is different, the feedback has been remarkably consistent.

The cup and rim were then plated in 𝟭𝟴𝗸 𝗴𝗼𝗹𝗱 and 𝟮𝟰𝗸 𝗴𝗼𝗹𝗱, with a 𝗿𝗼𝘀𝗲-𝗴𝗼𝗹𝗱 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁 added to the shank over the maker’s name.

Here’s what the player (a highly respected local trumpeter) had to say:
“Superb finish and quality. What a difference – especially in the higher register (super F and G no problem).”

This trombone mouthpiece came to us having been bought on eBay for £20. It was almost bare brass and probably about 50 years old. The mouthpiece went through:

• 𝗦𝘂𝗿𝗳𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗶𝗿 to remove scratches
• 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴
• 𝗔 𝗰𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗸𝗲 to provide a good foundation for the plating
• 𝗣𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗱𝗶𝘂𝗺 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 for a mirror‑silver finish
• 𝗥𝗼𝘀𝗲-𝗴𝗼𝗹𝗱 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁 on the shank

Palladium plating has become our preferred choice, given its extreme hardness, natural tarnish‑resistance and smooth feel on the embouchure. The client also noticed that it gave his playing more focus at higher volume and cleaner slotting of notes - something that others have commented on too.

I’ve just finished giving my wife's Denis Wick cornet mouthpiece a stunning, high-performance makeover. Originally all-gold, we’ve completely reimagined its look and durability with a multi-metal finish that really stands out.

𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲’𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝗱:
𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝗶𝗺: Kept the original, luxurious gold for that familiar, comfortable feel on the lips.
𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗕𝗼𝗱𝘆: Plated the external shank from the rim down in ultra-premium Palladium.
𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗗𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗹: Added a striking copper accent band halfway down for a sharp, modern contrast.

𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗣𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗱𝗶𝘂𝗺? 🤔
Aside from looking absolutely incredible next to the gold and copper, palladium is a powerhouse material for brass players:

𝗨𝗹𝘁𝗿𝗮-𝗗𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲: Palladium is significantly harder than both gold and traditional silver. This means incredible scratch resistance and a finish that is built to last through countless hours of concerts and rehearsals.

𝗧𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗵-𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁: Unlike silver, it won’t oxidize or tarnish, keeping that brilliant, bright mirror finish with minimal maintenance.

𝗛𝘆𝗽𝗼𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗰 & 𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗲: It’s exceptionally biocompatible, making it an excellent choice for a mouthpiece.

By keeping the gold on the rim, you get the best of both worlds: the soft, warm feel of gold where it matters most, protected by a rock-solid, head-turning palladium body.

⭐ New Finish Option for Mouthpieces
𝗪𝗲’𝗿𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝗰𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝗱𝗱 𝗮 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗶𝘂𝗺 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗵 𝘁𝗼 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗺𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗽𝗶𝗲𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀.
This trombone mouthpiece features a satin silver body, a copper highlight on the shank and a beautifully smooth 18k rim and cup finished with 24k gold.

It’s a striking combination – warm copper tones, soft satin silver and a luxurious gold playing surface – all applied using our professional multi‑stage plating process finished with the jewellery grade nano‑polymer sealant which protects against the effects of saliva.

𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝘄𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗮 𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗹 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻 𝗔𝗿𝘁𝗹𝗲𝘆 𝗳𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗲, 𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝘁 𝗮 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿.
The instrument was completely stripped down, all keywork cleaned, and the tarnish removed using our electrolysis process for a safe, even finish.

A couple of damaged pads were replaced, and the remaining pads were reconditioned to ensure a good seal across the flute.
To finish, we applied a jewellery‑grade nano‑polymer sealant — helping protect the silver from future tarnish and reducing fingerprints.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘂𝗹𝘁: a brighter, smoother, cleaner flute that plays beautifully again.
