I’ve just finished giving my wife's Denis Wick cornet mouthpiece a stunning, high-performance makeover. Originally all-gold, we’ve completely reimagined its look and durability with a multi-metal finish that really stands out.

𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲’𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝗱:
𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝗶𝗺: Kept the original, luxurious gold for that familiar, comfortable feel on the lips.
𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗕𝗼𝗱𝘆: Plated the external shank from the rim down in ultra-premium Palladium.
𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗗𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗹: Added a striking copper accent band halfway down for a sharp, modern contrast.

𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗣𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗱𝗶𝘂𝗺? 🤔
Aside from looking absolutely incredible next to the gold and copper, palladium is a powerhouse material for brass players:

𝗨𝗹𝘁𝗿𝗮-𝗗𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲: Palladium is significantly harder than both gold and traditional silver. This means incredible scratch resistance and a finish that is built to last through countless hours of concerts and rehearsals.

𝗧𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗵-𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁: Unlike silver, it won’t oxidize or tarnish, keeping that brilliant, bright mirror finish with minimal maintenance.

𝗛𝘆𝗽𝗼𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗰 & 𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗲: It’s exceptionally biocompatible, making it an excellent choice for a mouthpiece.

By keeping the gold on the rim, you get the best of both worlds: the soft, warm feel of gold where it matters most, protected by a rock-solid, head-turning palladium body.

𝗪𝗲’𝗿𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝗰𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝗱𝗱 𝗮 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗶𝘂𝗺 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗵 𝘁𝗼 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗺𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗽𝗶𝗲𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀.
This trombone mouthpiece features a satin silver body, a copper highlight on the shank and a beautifully smooth 18k rim and cup finished with 24k gold.

It’s a striking combination – warm copper tones, soft satin silver and a luxurious gold playing surface – all applied using our professional multi‑stage plating process finished with the jewellery grade nano‑polymer sealant which protects against the effects of saliva.

⭐ Artley Flute Full Service
𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝘄𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗮 𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗹 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻 𝗔𝗿𝘁𝗹𝗲𝘆 𝗳𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗲, 𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝘁 𝗮 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿.
The instrument was completely stripped down, all keywork cleaned, and the tarnish removed using our electrolysis process for a safe, even finish.

A couple of damaged pads were replaced, and the remaining pads were reconditioned to ensure a good seal across the flute.
To finish, we applied a jewellery‑grade nano‑polymer sealant — helping protect the silver from future tarnish and reducing fingerprints.

This week’s plating project was a beautiful one: a Denis Wick euphonium mouthpiece originally finished in gold, now fully restored and transformed.

After removing light surface wear with a careful buff, we built up a 𝗺𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶‑𝗴𝗼𝗹𝗱 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗵 exactly as the customer requested:

• 𝟭𝟴𝗸 𝗴𝗼𝗹𝗱 𝗯𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗹𝗮𝘆𝗲𝗿
• 𝟮𝟰𝗸 𝗴𝗼𝗹𝗱 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗹𝗮𝘆
• 𝗗𝗲𝗲𝗽, 𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗺 𝟱𝗡 𝗴𝗼𝗹𝗱 applied to the cup and rim
• 𝗥𝗼𝘀𝗲‑𝗴𝗼𝗹𝗱 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗯𝗮𝗻𝗱 across the maker’s mark

A really satisfying restoration - and a lovely example of how different gold tones can be combined for both aesthetics and durability.

⭐ 𝗧𝗿𝘂𝗺𝗽𝗲𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗠𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗽𝗶𝗲𝗰𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻
This week we had the pleasure of working on a very special instrument, a 1930s trumpet passed down from father to son and believed to have been played during the Second World War.

Its condition told its own story, and the most important job was getting the valves and slides moving again so it could be played. We agreed it wouldn’t be right to strip away the old lacquer or remove the corrosion, because the patina is part of its history. Even a couple of dents were left exactly as they were, because they belong to the instrument’s past.

The trumpet was fully serviced and collected by its owner, who was delighted to see it playing again. We also managed to find an appropriate vintage mouthpiece, which we then silver‑plated so it looked like new, giving him a quality mouthpiece to learn on while keeping the whole setup true to its era.
