Woop woop! New course announcement!

For ages now I've wanted to offer this NCFE Level 2 Photography qualification that's 100 percent coursework portfolio based (without an exam). And now I am as I am an approved NCFE provider.

This course and qualification is ideal for students that want to create a brilliant photography portfolio and gain 16 credits that is accepted by some colleges as a GCSE equivalent (check with your college of choice) without the stress of an exam.

This live online class starts in January 2027. It's on Mondays at 3.15pm.
With a small group of up to 10 pupils - 3 places have been reserved already!

Here is the booking link that you can click on for cost, dates and more course information in the description.

These screenshots of messages from parents and carers of my 2026 GCSE Art and Photography cohort in the exam results week in August - show just how awesome my home ed families are .... they always send lots of kind messages.

Small online class sizes enable me to build good relationships with my students and parents/ carers - that's one of the great things of being a small provider.

Many of these messages are about home educated children gaining confidence - and that's why they are so great to receive.

There's also a screenshot here from the exam board Cambridge OCR about how my photography student was one of the top performers in the country too! Awesome too!

This selection of professional equine photos is created by my photography student Bella - who just gained a grade 7 for her Photography GCSE with me in August. Congratulations Bella!

Bella started her own equine photography business earlier this year - and has gone from doing everything for free to now being employed as a freelance photographer for some big equine venues and shows across the UK. She is such an inspiration!

Through GCSE photography Bella found many equine photographers who inspired her and she created work inspired by them which led to her creating her own unique style. She also gained some work experience with local photographers.
These professional photos for clients are made outside her GCSE portfolio of work (as GCSE work can't be posted on socials until a couple of months after final grades are received).

Bella is also going on to study media and sociology at college in September

Today we get to witness a partial solar eclipse — starting around 6:15pm, peaking around 7:10-7:15pm, and finishing by about 8:10pm, depending on where you are located in the UK.

Up to 90-95% of the sun will be covered depending on where you are, making this the deepest partial eclipse the UK has seen in almost 30 years, and about as close to totality as most of us will ever get without a flight to Iceland or Spain!

⚠️Safety Notice:
Viewing or photographing the eclipse can be dangerous if done incorrectly, don't look at it directly without any protective equipment — Buy certified and safe equipment to keep your eyes safe⚠️

⚠️Never point your camera or phone straight at the sun without protection — you can damage both your eyes and your camera sensor.⚠️

Make sure any glasses or phone filters you do buy are ISO 12312-2:2015(E) certified.

The ideal setup is that you have both the glasses and a filter for your phone - this ensures that you are safe.

Hold a pair of certified eclipse glasses directly over your lens. Or you can attach a special phone filter.

I do not recommend using your DSLR camera to view and/or photograph the Eclipse. Unless you have a suitable solar filter for the camera, you are likely to damage the sensor. Solar filters for DSLRs are available but the process when using them is complex. Longer lenses are also required. This post from MPB, who I trust as a camera supplier, gives more information: How to photograph a solar eclipse | MPB.

But due to the complexity, I advise using your smartphone and/or a projection method.

Alternatively, you could also try a pinhole projection: poke a small hole in some card, hold it up with the sun behind you, and photograph the little crescent it projects onto a second card or the ground.
