London Educational Trips - Take part in our London Education Trip

Performing Arts students perform The Little Shop of Horrors at The Mart Theatre, Skipton.

Fuelled by Faust and fertiliser, the Little Shop of Horrors is a ‘charming, kooky and hilarious 1950s musical sci-fi spoof’. With a book and lyrics by Howard Ashman, music by Alan Menken and based on the film by Roger Corman with a screenplay by Charles Griffith, it is one of the longest-running off-Broadway shows of all time.

Performing Arts students were tasked to produce a play to be performed at the Grassington Festival. It was about an upper class lady who falls in love with highwayman. Ciara talks us though the writing process.

Craven College Performing Arts students put on a musical production every at the Mart Theatre in Skipton. The shows play to a live audience over two nights.and is the culmination of months of practice and hard work. This gives students valuable experience of putting on a real musical production and pushes them to grow as performers.

Craven College was delighted to receive a GPLD grant (Great Place Lakes and Dales Acorn fund) as part of a project that Skipton Puppet Festival are delivering to build connections with local creative young people.

A half-day masterclass workshop was enjoyed by our Performing and Production Arts Level 2 & 3 Diploma students.

The students were also invited to join Steve Wright on Saturday 05 October to be ‘The Crew’ at the Skipton Puppet Festival Canal basin hub-site supporting vox-pop interviews and interactions with the public.

Craven College performing arts students stage We Will Rock You

Students from Craven College’s performing arts department will be taking over the stage at Skipton’s Mart Theatre with their version of the West End musical, We Will Rock You.

Based on the songs of the rock band Queen, the show is set in a future where originality and individualism are shunned. But resistance is growing and, underneath the gleaming cities, live the Bohemians, who believe youngsters should form their own bands and write their own songs.

“This is an exciting opportunity for all our students,” said tutor Giles Atkinson, director of the show. “We take students from the age of 16 and teach them acting, dance, singing, stage craft and performance skills.

“Taking part in the annual college musical gives students the opportunity to combine all these skills and work towards a performance-based project. The students find this a challenging and exciting part of the course, giving them the chance to work on skills that many of them have not tried before.

“Many students do go into the profession and many current and former students have appeared in professional productions and others have had major roles in TV and film work.”
