Curiosity and connection. Powerful and life-changing!

Anthony Doerr wrote the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel All the Light We Cannot See. He was a student at a Montessori school, and says: "Of all the skills nine years of Montessori education gave me—critical thinking skills, social skills, kickball skills—the most lasting has been a sense of my place in deep geologic time... You’re six or seven years old and you’re being asked to measure the brief, warm, intensely complicated fingersnap of your life against the absolutely incomprehensible vastness of time. The sense of luck that made me feel—to be here at all!—has never left me. It permeates my writing, my attitudes toward natural resources, and my relationship with my sons...
We all share this one big clump of iron and magnesium and nickel whirling around the sun and it is the one thing we will bequeath to our children. So why not be as deeply curious about it as we can? Why not try to understand what is happening to it in the pitifully brief time we’re here? Looking back, I believe Montessori was one of the strongest influences in my life nudging me toward this kind of curiosity."

Our school week often begins with a walk - out of the school gate and right into the woods. There are so many benefits to an education that values time spent in nature … but sometimes the joy is found in a deep sense of belonging, which might have less to do with nature and more to do with the community. ❤️

Join us in Skipton on Saturday, May 30th. Jeremy is speaking at 1:10pm, but the event runs from 11:00am -3:00pm and there are several fantastic presenters!

Fridays are for cooking! Each week, one of our students picks something to cook for the community, to be shared at lunch. For months, one of our boys has been talking about a delicious bread dip recipe that he has come up with … and today we finally had the opportunity to taste it. It was delicious!
