🧠 Think It Through Tuesday – KS4 Morning Mastery

As part of our new KS4 Morning Mastery programme, we have introduced Think It Through Tuesday – an opportunity for our students to explore topical questions, develop their critical thinking skills and, importantly, form and articulate their own opinions.

This week’s question was:

πŸ’ β€œDo consumers have a responsibility to avoid products linked to child labour?”

I witnessed some excellent discussions, with students considering a range of perspectives and demonstrating a real willingness to challenge ideas, listen to different viewpoints and justify their own opinions.

Questions like this don’t always have a simple right or wrong answer – and that is exactly the point. We want our students to become thoughtful, informed young people who are confident in thinking critically about the world around them.

Well done, KS4! Your voices, questions and ideas matter.

✨ Creativity, organisation and individuality at SGS! ✨

Today we discovered even more of our Year 7 students using their creativity to design their own personalised weekly planners, helping them to keep track of exactly what their week looks like and make sure they are organised for everything SGS has to offer. πŸ“šπŸ’š

After less than a week, we are already witnessing so many innovative ideas and individual solutions from our new students to help make their lives at SGS easier, more organised and uniquely their own.

We absolutely love seeing our Year 7s taking ownership, thinking creatively and finding ways to make their seven-year SGS journey work for them.

Pictures with Miss Tongue you can see the pride they have as SGS scholars.

What a fantastic start, Year 7! πŸŒŸπŸ’šπŸ’›

The KS4 SPAG Sprint

For the next two weeks, all of our Year 10 and 11 students will take part in the 'KS4 SPAG Sprint' during their English Language lessons.

We know how important spelling, punctuation, and grammar are in helping us to communicate our knowledge effectively, and so we will be revising the following areas:

What is a complete sentence?
What is a fragmented sentence and why are problematic?
How do we fix run on sentences?
How do we use apostrophes for contraction and possession?
How do we use commas in a list?
How do we punctuate fronted adverbials?
How can we use colons, semicolons, dashes, and brackets to clarify our ideas?
How do we ensure our subject-verb agreements are consistently accurate?
Why does tense consistency matter?
How do we use pronouns accurately to make our writing more fluent?
How can we craft the four types of sentence effectively into our writing?
What strategies can we use to learn our spellings?
Why and how should we 'upgrade' our vocabulary?

🌟 Welcome back to SGS! 🌟

Today we welcomed our Year 7, Year 11 and Year 12 students back to school β€” and what a fantastic start to the new academic year!

For our Year 7 students, this marks the beginning of their exciting seven-year journey as SGS Scholars. πŸ’šπŸ’›

For Year 11 and Year 12, these are crucial years as students take important steps towards their future, setting goals, embracing opportunities and working towards their next chapter. πŸ“šβœ¨

Students were welcomed with an inspiring assembly from Mrs Walker, Headteacher, followed by an encouraging talk from our Senior Student Leadership Team, who shared their experiences, advice and aspirations with our students.

It was wonderful to see our school community come together again, with students returning with enthusiasm, ambition and a real sense of purpose.

Here’s to an incredible year ahead! 🌟

Aim high. Work hard. Be kind. Make it count. πŸ’šπŸ’›

🌟 Creativity, individuality and a great start to SGS! 🌟

Mrs Walker, our Headteacher, met with one of our new Year 7 students today to admire the creativity that had gone into creating her very own personalised daily timetable for SGS! πŸ“šβœ¨

We absolutely love seeing our students bring their individuality, personality and creativity into school. It’s fantastic to see our new scholars already making SGS their own and finding ways to make their school experience work for them.

πŸ‘ Well done! What a fantastic start to your SGS journey! πŸ’šπŸ’›

🌟 YEAR 7 β€” WHAT A FABULOUS AFTERNOON! 🌟

What a busy, exciting and very productive afternoon our new Year 7 have had! πŸ’šπŸ’›

They returned home tired but happy, having learned so much about life as an SGS Scholar.

This afternoon they were introduced to:

πŸ“š Our SEND Department β€” with our wonderful SENDCO, Miss Smith, helping students understand the support available to them.

πŸ’š Our fabulous Pastoral Team β€” led by our Pastoral Manager, Mrs McKenna, who introduced students to the people who are there to support them throughout their SGS journey.

πŸ† The SGS Rewards System β€” Assistant Headteacher, Miss Bee, showed students how they can earn rewards for making positive choices. And they’ve already been putting this into practice β€” all of Year 7 have already scooped up rewards! πŸŽ‰

🌟 Representing SGS β€” our Head of Year 7, Mr Cotterill, talked to students about the importance of representing SGS with pride, both inside and outside of school.

🚨 Students also experienced their first practice fire drill. While we hope they’ll never need to use what they learned, it’s essential that every student knows what to do and that we can keep everyone safe in an emergency.

πŸ“– And then came the really exciting part… getting into their classrooms and experiencing two of their first real lessons as SGS Scholars!

It has been a wonderful first day, and we are already seeing friendships forming, confidence growing and our new Year 7 beginning to understand what it means to be part of the SGS family. πŸ’šπŸ’›

We are so incredibly proud of them!

This is just the beginning of their seven-year SGS journey… and what a start they have made! 🌟

πŸ’š What a wonderful start to the SGS Scholars’ 7-year journey! πŸ’š

After saying goodbye to their families this morning, our new Year 7 scholars have already had a fantastic start to life at SGS. 🌟

They have enjoyed welcoming assemblies from Mrs Walker, Headteacher, and Mr Cotterill, Head of Year 7, and have begun learning all about the SGS Way, what it means to be part of our school community and, most importantly, what it means to be an SGS Scholar. πŸŽ“

And now… it’s time for a well-deserved break! πŸ˜‹ Our Year 7s are enjoying some delicious food in the canteen and taking the opportunity to chat, relax and get to know one another.

It’s wonderful to see them already beginning to form a fantastic Year 7 family, while making those all-important first impressions with their form tutors. πŸ’š

We couldn’t be more proud of how they have approached their first morning. The first day of a very special seven-year journey has begun… and what a start! ✨

Welcome to the SGS family, Year 7 – this is just the beginning! πŸ’šπŸŽ“
