Our Sixth Form and Engage students recently enjoyed a fantastic day aboard the Kingfisher boat.
The journey there certainly kept us guessing, as we travelled through several different types of weather. Thankfully, by the time we boarded, the conditions had brightened and we were treated to a lovely day on the water.
We chose seats at the front of the boat, giving us great views throughout the trip. One of the highlights was passing through a lock, where we watched the crew expertly navigate the boat while seeing the water level rise around us. It was fascinating to watch the process and learn how it all works.
The scenery along the route was beautiful, with plenty of ducks and swans to spot. Although we didn't manage to see a kingfisher this time, there was plenty of wildlife to enjoy. We stopped to moor for lunch, where some curious swans wandered over and peered through the windows, seemingly hoping to be invited to join us!
Everyone had the opportunity to take the helm under the guidance of the crew. Steering the boat was a real highlight of the day, and all the students did such a great job that they each received a certificate to recognise their efforts.
It was a wonderful day of new experiences, teamwork and enjoying the outdoors. A big thank you to the crew for making the trip so enjoyable, and well done to our students for embracing every opportunity throughout the day.
