Over the past couple of weeks we have been celebrating Chinese new year, world book day and learning about spring time!

The children had the opportunity to try Chinese food at snack time, some even attempted to eat using chopsticks! 🥢

For world book day we explored ‘The Tiger Who Came To Tea’ with a great set up in our tray! Children got involved by using the picture promps to follow the story, becoming little narrators and guessing what might happen next, as well as role playing and having their very own tea party. 🫖 🐅

Spring time has bought up lots of interest in mini beasts and flowers. The children discussed what flowers might need to help them grow and learned the different names of parts of a daffodil such as bulb, stem, bud and petals.

We made the hungry caterpillar, counting out how many letters each child’s name contains and then working on writing our letters 🐛

We also got messy with paint, creating some amazing mini beasts of our own (do check out our display board) 🐞🕷️🦋🌸

This week the children were busy creating some beautiful gifts for all of you wonderful mummies and we hope you liked them! 💐

Our first week back has been all about celebrating Chinese new year and this year was the year of the fire horse!

In our tray the children were able to learn lots about the Chinese culture, from using chopsticks, to trying on traditional clothing, looking through books and learning the meaning behind the special red envelopes. We also used a globe to find where china is in the world.

In our home corner the children enjoyed our Chinese restaurant set up and had the opportunity to use chopsticks and real noodles in their play for the full experience!

Our craft activity this week was making dragons! Following instructions and using prepositions such as under, over, on top, the children had to fold the paper in order to create a pattern, resulting in their very own dancing dragons 🐉

We also learned how to say “happy new year” in Chinese and on Friday when we went over all of our learning for the week we were amazed at how many children had remembered! Great job Tinks 😁

This term we are looking at “people who help us”
We started off by talking about the emergency services and their roles in helping people. 👮‍♀️👨‍⚕️🧑‍🚒

The children made their own emergency vehicles, doctors bags and learned the very important 999 number! 🚑
They also very much enjoyed the police station out for role play this week.

In the garden the children enjoyed making marks with paint using the tiger feet.

We also looked at recycling, helping the environment and how some things can be decomposed, we have a little experiment for the children to watch over the coming weeks to see which items will decompose and which won’t. ♻️

This weeks tray has been all about capacity, this come from one of the children’s interests in growing and getting taller.
The children experimented with water and cereal to look at different capacity such as full, empty, half full, nearly full.
We also measured the children’s height and looked at who was the tallest and shortest.

This week has been all about Halloween 👻

In our tray we had a great acitivity for children to work in their fine motor skills, using tweezers to pick up the spiders and fill the pots 🕷️

We have been using hammers to nail tee’s in to pumpkins and then cut the pumpkins open to see what was inside. The children asked if we could keep the seeds and try to grow pumpkins so we will be giving it a go! 🎃

We made spiders from playdough and pipe cleaners 🕷️

The children made monster splats with paint and done bubble painting to create a witches cauldron 🧙‍♀️
One of the children even got creative with the junk modelling to make their very own monster!

Last week some of the children got to go out for a walk. We looked at the change in seasons, noticing how the leaves on the trees had turned different colours and started falling. We collected conkers and some of us even got to see a hedgehog 🦔
After getting advice from the wildlife rescue, we took the hedgehog back to nursery with us, stopping at the shop first to buy some food for him. We made him a cosy home, gave him food and water and waiting for him to be collected and taken to the vets. The children loved seeing a hedgehog and named him Sonic! 😂

In the garden we used some of the leaves we had found to create a lovely autumn picture!

Some of the children also made pictures by rolling conkers and pine cones in paint, looking at the different effects it made on paper.

In our tray last week we made potions 🧪
