Farm based special school. Yew Tree Farm School offers a wide variety of different activities for all age groups.

Additionally, we are an alternative provider registered with the local authority for children and young people that are struggling with their education. We offer small group sessions and 1-1 sessions, run by qualified teachers.

Our students have been busy growing their very own potatoes! They've planted, cared for, dug up and washed their harvest, before turning them into delicious jacket potatoes for everyone to enjoy at lunchtime! 🥔🧀

They've even started experimenting with making crisps in our new oven!

It's a great example of how learning at Yew Tree Farm School goes beyond the classroom. From understanding where our food comes from to developing practical cooking skills, teamwork and independence, there's so much learning involved in something as simple as a potato, and there's something extra rewarding about eating food you've grown yourself!🪴

This week, we welcomed Westpoint Farm Vets to Yew Tree Farm School to give our pigs a little TLC, including trimming their tusks and feet.

Our students were able to watch the process, see a demonstration and ask plenty of questions along the way. It tied in perfectly with our Vets and Pets topic this term and gave the children the chance to see some of their learning happening in real life.

A huge thank you to Megan for taking the time to explain what she was doing and involving our students. 🐷🐾🌿

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5 stars for Yew Tree Farm School!

We’re really pleased to share that, following an unannounced food hygiene inspection, we’ve been awarded a 5-star food hygiene rating! 🎉

Food is a big part of life at Yew Tree, from preparing and cooking meals with our students to sitting down and eating together in our canopy food hall. Making sure everything is prepared and served safely is incredibly important to us, so we’re very proud to have received the highest rating.

The new 5-star sticker is now proudly on display in our kitchen window! ⭐

Every morning, our students have the opportunity to take part in sensory circuits to help get their bodies and brains ready for the day ahead.

Sensory circuits use a mixture of movement, coordination and sensory activities to support regulation, focus, balance and body awareness – helping students reach that “just right” level of alertness for learning.

Everyone got involved this morning, working together and encouraging each other throughout. Our staff take part alongside the students, modelling the activities and encouraging everyone to have a go.

A fun, active and positive way to start our school day.

Horse riding is just one of the many extra-curricular activities our students take part in, alongside swimming, school trips, library visits and lots more.

Each activity has a planned outcome for each individual student, making sure there is always purpose behind the fun. Horse riding is fantastic for developing core strength, balance and coordination, while also building confidence, independence and trust.

For our students, learning doesn’t just happen in the classroom. Every experience is an opportunity to develop new skills. 🌿🐴

A huge thank you to RMT Landscape Services who donated a fantastic load of woodchip to our school! 🌳

We’ve already been putting it to good use around the site by improving our pathways and upgrading our outdoor lunch and seating area!

As a farm-based school, our outdoor spaces are a huge part of our students’ everyday learning and school experience, so practical donations like this really do make a difference.

Thank you for supporting our school and our students – it’s very much appreciated! 🌿

🍗 Today’s lunch, chosen and cooked by Student G! 🥪

Each week, our students take turns choosing a meal to prepare for the whole site. Today, G chose chicken wings, boiled eggs, and sandwiches, complete with sides!

As part of his trip, G headed to the shops to pick up all the ingredients he needed before coming back to school to prep and cook everything himself.

These everyday experiences are a brilliant way to build practical life skills – from planning and shopping to budgeting, making choices, preparing food and developing independence.

Cooking for the whole site also brings a lovely sense of community. Students get to contribute to school life, share something they’ve made with their peers and staff, and enjoy sitting down together for lunch.

A very successful choice from G today! 👏🍽️

🌿 Lunchtimes at Yew Tree Farm School 🌿

For some young people, lunchtime can be one of the trickiest parts of the school day. Busy dining halls, unfamiliar adults and unstructured social time can all feel overwhelming. That’s why we try to make lunchtimes at Yew Tree feel a little different.

Today we enjoyed a lovely collective lunch in the sunshine, with sausage sandwiches and students and staff sitting together to eat, chat and enjoy some time as a whole school community.☀️🌭

Our lunchtimes are supported by the same familiar teachers and TAs our students know throughout their school day – there isn’t a changeover to unfamiliar lunchtime staff. Students can also choose from different seating and eating areas, depending on where they feel most comfortable.

After eating, students can choose which lunchtime club they fancy joining, with art, music and volleyball on offer today.🎨🎵🏐

Each club offers something a little different, whether that’s getting active, being creative, trying something new or simply spending time with others who enjoy the same things. They’re also a great opportunity for students and staff to build relationships in a relaxed and enjoyable environment.

These little things make a big difference. Lunchtime becomes another opportunity to build relationships, develop confidence and social skills, and strengthen that sense of belonging.

At Yew Tree Farm School, everyone knows everyone – and lunchtime is just another part of learning and growing together.🌳💚

We are very pleased to share the report from our recent Ofsted material change inspection.

Ofsted found that Yew Tree Farm School is likely to meet the relevant Independent School Standards if our proposed changes are implemented. The report also recognises that our current pupils are happy, feel safe and secure, and that we are planning sensibly to grow the school steadily while maintaining the quality of our provision.

We are now awaiting final approval from the Department for Education.

From September 2026, we will begin to increase our pupil numbers very gradually. This will be carefully managed to protect the calm, safe and consistent environment our current pupils value, while ensuring every new starter receives a thorough and supportive transition.

Once DfE approval is received, our registration will allow us to admit secondary-age pupils. However, we will not begin admitting pupils in Key Stages 3 or 4 until September 2027. Growing at a manageable pace is essential to maintaining the high standards, strong relationships and individualised support that sit at the heart of our school.

We are proud of this positive report and excited about the next stage of Yew Tree Farm School’s development.

Some young people are not yet ready to return to a classroom, but they are ready to begin reconnecting with education.

The Yew Tree Futures Re-engagement Pathway offers a calm, practical and highly supported programme for young people aged 14+ who are experiencing barriers to education. Placements are personalised and can include farm-based activities, life skills, equine assisted learning, English and maths, community access and support to rebuild confidence.

The pathway opens on 2nd September at Grove Farm, Woodchurch, and places are available Wednesday to Friday.
