Hope you are all enjoying this beautiful weather !!! but it is also a time to take care, especially with the young and elderly. So below are the signs, symptoms and how to treat Heat exhaustion and Heat stroke:
The signs of heat exhaustion include:
• tiredness
• dizziness
• headache
• feeling sick or being sick
• excessive sweating and skin becoming pale and clammy or getting a heat rash, but a change in skin colour can be harder to see on brown and black skin
• cramps in the arms, legs and stomach
• fast breathing or heartbeat
• a high temperature
• being very thirsty
• weakness
The symptoms of heat exhaustion are often the same in adults and children, although children may become irritable too.
If someone is showing signs of heat exhaustion they need to be cooled down and given fluids.
Things you can do to cool someone down
If someone has heat exhaustion, follow these 4 steps:
1. Move them to a cool place.
2. Remove all unnecessary clothing like a jacket or socks.
3. Get them to drink a sports or rehy
dration drink, or cool water.
4. Cool their skin – spray or sponge them with cool water and fan them. Cold packs, wrapped in a cloth and put under the armpits or on the neck are good too.
Stay with them until they're better.
They should start to cool down and feel better within 30 minutes.

You can call 111 or get help from 111 online.
Immediate action required: call 999 if you or someone else have signs of heatstroke, including
• still unwell after 30 minutes of resting in a cool place, being cooled and drinking fluids
• a very high temperature
• hot skin that is not sweating and might look red (this can be harder to see on brown or black skin)
• a fast heartbeat

Great day at Cotmaton House delivering Fire Warden Training. 🔥🚨

The session included a variety of practical activities based on the organisation's fire safety and evacuation procedures, helping staff become familiar with their responsibilities in the event of an emergency.

Participants gained knowledge of fire safety equipment, fire signage, evacuation procedures, and the important role Fire Wardens play in keeping people safe. The practical exercises helped build confidence and reinforce key fire safety messages throughout the day.

Always a pleasure to deliver training with the SidLife team, whose engagement and participation helped make the day both enjoyable and productive.

Would you like to learn baby and child first aid — for parents and all family members?

We’ve created a practical training session to help new and existing parents, grandparents, carers, siblings and wider family members feel confident and capable caring for little ones and responding safely and effectively in an accident or health emergency. Ideal for expectant parents, recently expanded families and anyone who regularly looks after children, the course covers: baby and paediatric CPR, choking, bumps and burns, breaks and bleeding, febrile seizures, plus essential meningitis & sepsis awareness. Join us to be prepared, calm and ready to act when it matters most.

Sidmouth course date and venue are yet to be confirmed. Duration 3 hours. Cost £45.00 per person.
