Wishing you all a happy and healthy 2024 🍾🥂🎆

Closing our doors for Christmas today.
Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! 🎄🎅🍾
We'll be back on January 3rd...

Employed a new proof reader for my reports...... 😂 I'm joking.... can't leave my seat for two seconds without him jumping in it!

Last lessons before Christmas for some of my students this evening 🎅⛄️🎄

I'm rubbish at keeping the page updated 🙈
So just wanted to let you all know I'm still here!

I am so super proud of my dyslexia support club students, who raised a whopping £221 at their bake sale today!! 🤩

Happy Dyslexia Awareness week!

Super excited that the badges I ordered for Dyslexia Awareness Week have arrived!

I am over the moon to be able to share with you that I just got my results..... and I passed with distinction!
I am now a qualified SENCO 🎉🎉

Can you believe we've been back at school for over 2 weeks already!
We're getting back into the swing of things here at Achieve - how have the first couple of weeks back been for you?

Its back to school and back to the office!
Tutoring starts up next week and I'm taking new assessment bookings from Mid-October

Phew 😅
The laptop is off.... I've written my assignment and recorded the presentation for the NASENCO award. Going to let it sit while I take a break for a couple of weeks 🏝
I'll be occasionally checking emails while I'm off and will get back to you as soon as I can

People say “In the REAL world, they won’t be able to…” and then end that sentence with something that you actually, totally, can in fact do in the “real world”, a surprising amount of times in my line of work.

Actual things that people have actually, literally said to me:

In the REAL world, he won’t be using a pencil gripper. (What? Literally why not? I could use any pencil gripper I wanted to to write anything I felt like.)

In the REAL world, she can’t rock in her chair, so… (Yet I, a grown adult, sit perched like a bird and rocking wildly back and forth in my office chair while writing evaluations when I need a lot of sensory input.)

In the REAL world, the kids won’t have clipboards available to write on. (Isn’t a clipboard like, two dollars? Why couldn’t someone write with a clipboard?)

In the REAL world, she can’t cry every time something happens that she doesn’t like. (Anyone can cry whenever they want to cry. I’ve cried at all kinds of works in my life. When someone is crying, other human beings who are decent usually try to help them.)

On the flip side, you know what else doesn’t happen in the real world? People typically don’t have to sit silently at desks for 6+ hours a day. People typically are able to talk to their friend or coworker or text somebody in between tasks or when they feel like it. People typically can eat a snack if they’d like to or make arrangements to. People typically aren’t stuck in a room with 30 other people who are exactly their age, and nobody else. People typically don’t have to navigate buildings and structures and objects that are too large and proportionally clearly not made for them. People typically can take a break when they need to. People typically aren’t punished, and especially not physically, by their loved ones and close friends.

For Me, It infuriates me every time someone says this.... and actually, yes, they will "behave" exactly the way they do now "in the real world" because it's who they are and they can't change that.... and why should they?

Summer holidays usually means a wind down in assessments and less tutoring days..... which is lucky for me, as the deadline for my final assignment for the NASENCO award is rapidly approaching!

I have a tutoring space available from September.

If you or someone you know may be interested, get in touch.

My very talented niece (who just happens to be dyslexic.... the best ones always are 😉) won best stall at the children's business fair today.
She also has a business page where you can order some fantastic personalised items

As the school year comes to a close and many parents are receiving their child's reports, I often see an increase in assessment requests.
A diagnostic assessment provides a profile of strengths and weaknesses, with recommendations for support. Having this ready for the new academic year can help to guide support and ensure your child can ACHIEVE their potential.

I have some availability over the summer.
You can contact me via messenger or by clicking the website link in my bio.

This week, we've been trying out some assistive technology and using dictation to get our ideas down on the paper.
It's harder than it sounds, and students need to be given lots of opportunities to practice before using dictation software in exams, etc

Have just returned from the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh expedition with my school... Once again, the students made me so proud with their teamwork and good spirits.

🥵 my office is like an oven this evening. Fan on full, and I'm still melting 🫠

I've just realised how long it's been since I've updated my page! 😱
It's exam season at school.... I've been in Duke of Edinburgh mode practising for the upcoming expedition next weekend (pic from practice walk).... and I've been assessing every weekend....oh and submitting assignments for the NASENCO award 😅
BUT I am very much still here and taking bookings from July

Catching up with emails and trying to get some reading done, as I have an assignment for the SENCO award due in just under 2 weeks 😬

I've been so busy that it's been weeks since I've posted anything! 😅

So thought I'd remind you all I'm still here and taking bookings. Unfortunately, I still don't have any tutoring space at the moment, but if you're on my waiting list, I'll be in touch as soon as something becomes available.

Teaching the "ow" sound using sound cards for word building and using word cartoons to demonstrate the difference between homophones.

All set up for a Saturday morning assessment 😀

Currently taking bookings for May.

I've had some office helpers today.... never too early to start 😉

The last 2 young people I have worked with for their assessments really reminded me of all these things... 😊
I love my job, and it's an absolute privilege to get to work with and support some fantastic young people.

New pens 🤩 ....
I get so excited about this stuff, my husband thinks I've gone mad 🤪
