Twenty-five military and civilian professionals from 22 nations have successfully completed the Defence Academy's annual Managing Defence in the Wider Security Context (MDWSC) course.

Delivered by the Defence Academy's International Group and Cranfield University, the four-week programme explored future geostrategic challenges, policy and strategy development and governance, capabilities management as well as defence leadership and ethics. Participants also took part in practical exercises, UK defence visits and prestigious events including Trooping the Colour.

The course highlights the value of international collaboration, bringing together partners and allies from around the world to share knowledge, build lasting professional networks and strengthen collective understanding of defence and security challenges.

🏆 Congratulations to Team Vulcanus, recipients of the Worshipful Company of Entrepreneurs' 2025 Prize.

The international tri-service team was recognised for its innovative, data-driven approach to tackling the challenge of obsolete military parts, helping to improve operational readiness, supply chain resilience and defence capability. Their solution has already secured funding and is being integrated into Defence systems.

The Defence Academy’s Commandant, Major General Peter Rowell, recently represented the UK at the NATO Conference of Commandants in Rome, where leaders from across the Alliance explored how education can strengthen cognitive resilience.

Discussions highlighted the vital role of professional defence and security education (PDSE) in preparing military and civilian leaders for future challenges. The conference also recognised that work already being delivered through the Defence Academy is closely aligned with NATO’s emerging priorities.

A key outcome was agreement to explore how the Defence Academy’s Leadership Edge Framework could support future NATO education initiatives, reinforcing the value of international cooperation and shared learning.
