🏅🌟 Foundation Sports Day 🌟🏅

Today we had a wonderful afternoon at Prestfelde school for our Foundation Sports Day!

The children were absolutely fabulous, taking part in a variety of races with enthusiasm, determination, and plenty of smiles.

The mums and dads were great sports too, taking part in a race of their very own at the end! The children loved cheering them on from the sidelines whilst enjoying a well-deserved ice lolly. Thank you to all of our families for attending and helping to make the afternoon so special 🍦👏🏻

We would also like to extend a huge thank you to Prestfelde for their warm hospitality, for kindly allowing us to use their wonderful school field for the event, and for providing delicious refreshments for our families to enjoy. It provided the perfect setting for such a special afternoon, and we are incredibly grateful for their generosity and support.

A special thank you goes to Miss Leech and the Foundation team for all of their hard work preparing for today’s event. The children have been practising their races each day, building their confidence, perseverance, and sporting spirit. Their dedication and enthusiasm shone through this afternoon, and we couldn’t be prouder of them all 💛

🗣️💛 Every Child's Voice Matters 💛🗣️

At The Early Years Academy, we believe that communication begins long before children can speak fluently. Every sound, gesture, expression, and word has meaning, and every child's voice deserves to be heard.

Through our Communication & Me forms, we work closely with families to learn key words, phrases, and important information from home. Whether a child communicates in English, another language, uses signs, gestures, or a combination of approaches, we celebrate and value the unique ways they express themselves.

To further support this, we have recently purchased a selection of new books that reflect different languages, cultures, and ways of communicating. These resources help children see themselves, their families, and their experiences represented within our environment while encouraging curiosity and respect for others.

By incorporating familiar words from home into nursery life, we help children feel a sense of belonging, strengthen relationships, and support their confidence as communicators. This partnership with families enables us to create an environment where children feel understood, respected, and valued for who they are.

🚦🎨 Child Safety Week in Toddlers 🎨🚦

This week, our toddlers have been exploring Child Safety Week (1st–7th June) with a focus on road safety.

Using road signs and bikes in their play, one child confidently directed his friends, calling out, "You can go now!" He then gathered three signs together and announced, "Stop, I'm digging up the road!" 🚧

It was wonderful to see him drawing on his real-life experiences to demonstrate an understanding of road safety, hazards, and the world around him through imaginative play.

We have also been following the interests of two children who share a love of football. To extend this interest, we introduced a painting activity using balls and paint. The children enjoyed rolling the balls across the paper, creating colourful patterns and marks while developing their coordination, creativity, and physical skills.

At The Early Years Academy, we love seeing children's interests become meaningful learning opportunities that inspire curiosity, confidence, and exploration. 💛

“Hello, my name is Catherine. I currently work as Lunch Support Cover in the Foundation Class, although you may also see me supporting children in other rooms from time to time.

Working with children has always been something I wanted to do, and after beginning my childcare journey through agency work, I quickly realised how much I enjoyed it. I love supporting children as they learn and grow and find the role incredibly rewarding.

In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with family and friends. I look forward to getting to know you and your children”.

👏 A huge congratulations to Julie, who has recently been spotlighted for truly going the extra mile in our Baby Room. Julie’s warmth, care and dedication create such a nurturing environment for our little ones, and the love and effort she puts into each day never goes unnoticed.

🎉 We’re also celebrating Charlotte, who is marking her 1-year work anniversary with us! What a fantastic milestone. Over the past year, Charlotte has become such a valued part of our nursery, bringing kindness and commitment to everything she does.
