Is your instrument ready for your next gig? We service and repair Brass Instruments. Everything from removing a stuck mouthpiece or tuning slide, dent removal or soldering is completed with the utmost attention and skill.
As each job is unique to the needs of a particular instrument, we don’t really have a set price list. However, you can obtain a free consultation and quote on anything that may need attention on your instrument. Be assured that no work will be carried out without your full agreement. Quotes are only given after a physical inspection has been carried out however in some cases a photo of any external damage normally suffices.

One of the most common types of damage to your brass instrument is surface damage, with bumps and scratches to the silver plating or lacquer, or the oils and moisture in your hands pitting, degrading and dulling the finish over time. To avoid this, it’s important to keep your hands washed before playing or handling, and wipe the instrument clean of fingerprints afterwards with either a silver or brass cleaning cloth.
In addition, always be aware of where the bell of your instrument is, as when you’re gigging and enthusiasm takes over it’s all too easy to clash instruments and bump into music stands and other objects, causing dents. Even when taking your instrument out of the case, it’s good to be aware of where your instrument is, as metal clips, studs and even zips can cause scratches.

COVID-19: Advice for the musical instrument industry and you.

1. Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when you cough or sneeze.

2. Put used tissues in the bin straight away
Wash your hands with soap and water often – use hand sanitiser gel if soap and water are not available.

3. Try to avoid close contact with people who are unwell
Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces
Do not touch your eyes, nose or mouth if your hands are not clean.

4. Don’t share instruments
Maintain a good hygiene regime for instruments at all times
Clean brass instruments with warm, soapy water and an instrument brush (See Denis Wick trumpet brush here.) The brush MUST be used as it will dislodge any build-up of debris in the instrument. This will prevent any chance of re-infection or cross-contamination.

5. Mouthpiece hygiene is essential. Clean the mouthpiece with warm hot, soapy water and a mouthpiece brush. Do not use bleach or any sterilising fluid as this can damage the mouthpiece. A germicide spray, such as Sterisol, is fine, and good for use in a school or shop, but a good clean with washing-up liquid, hot water and a mouthpiece brush is just as effective in killing germs.

Looking after your Brass

Brass instruments are relatively easy to maintain. There are three valves (generally) and tuning slides that need occasional maintenance. Remember to consistently oil the valves and tuning slides can be maintained using a little tuning slide grease.

It is good to have valve oil and tuning slide grease, and these are easily available at good music shops or online. Parents warning – valve oil and grease can be harmful if swallowed or if exposed to skin. It can also stain clothes. It is important to read the instructions when you first receive this product
