Kat Preston is an artist based in the quiet hills of south shropshire specialising in ceramics and sculpture exploring the depths and meaning of womanhood. At its core Kat’s work is a feminist reflection on women’s bodies and the expectations placed on them in a world where her body is measured before her character.
After leaving her studies in fine art she followed her passion and decided to learn by making instead. This set her on a six year journey of parades, festivals, sets and scenic work teaching her form at scale, exposing her to a new world of building techniques.
With a broad creative skills set Kat uses everything at her disposal to express herself and tell stories. From thrown pots and ceramic sculptures to pastel and charcoal expressionism.
Kat’s practice is one of focused and intentional experimentation, both in narrative and ex*****on. Learning to make glazes, experimenting with firing techniques such as traditional wood and raku firing, and pushing each building technique through trial, error and scale. Join us for Body Burden & Bloom, her solo show opening this Thursday 8th October at Swan Hill Studios, rsvp link in bio.
