🎤 TECHNIQUE TIP: BREATH CONTROL 🎤

Running out of breath before the end of a phrase?

Before singing, look through your lyrics and mark the places where it makes sense to breathe. Your breath should support the meaning of the words—not interrupt the story halfway through a thought!

Try this:

✨ Speak the phrase naturally
✨ Notice where you instinctively pause
✨ Mark that point in your lyrics
✨ Take a relaxed, low breath
✨ Sing the phrase without pushing

Good breath control isn’t about taking the biggest breath possible. It’s about planning your breath and using it efficiently.

🎤 TECHNIQUE TIP: LEARNING A NEW SONG 🎤

There is nothing quite like beginning a brand-new song—but don’t rush straight into singing the whole thing!

Try breaking it down:

✨ Listen carefully to the original
✨ Read the lyrics without the music
✨ Speak the words as though they are a monologue
✨ Learn the melody in small sections
✨ Mark your breaths and tricky moments
✨ Finally, bring the words, music and storytelling together

Learning a song slowly and thoughtfully at the beginning can make the whole process quicker—and help you create a much more confident performance!

☀️ MY SUMMER… A VERY SPECIAL ONE ❤️

I've absolutely loved sharing some of my summer adventures with you over the last few weeks, and as I prepare for my little boy's settling-in day at his new specialist nursery, I wanted to share one more very special moment. ❤️

This summer we took Jensen to an inclusive playground in Telford, and it was wonderful!

For once, there were things he could really get involved with. We were able to take him on the merry-go-round in his wheelchair, we tried a special accessible swing and then we had this moment...

Jensen went on the seesaw with Mummy — and gripped onto the bar himself. 🥹❤️

That might sound like such a small thing, but for Jensen, it's brand new. And we couldn't have been prouder of him.

As he starts this next chapter, we're so excited to see what he can achieve and watch him continue to grow and thrive.

It reminded me of something that applies to so many areas of life...

✨ With the right support, encouragement and opportunities, you can achieve incredible things. ✨

Which leads me to a little thank you of my own.

As we head into September and the final week of RJ Vocal Coach Summer Club, I've put together some of our favourite school-themed Musical Theatre songs!
