These musicians are not from another world. They learned an instrument, joined an ensemble, got used to reading a part under pressure and kept turning up. That route is open to any young person in Shropshire, through our lessons in schools, our county bands and orchestras, and our bursary scheme.

Theatre Severn 15th to 17th October

Shrewsbury Musical Theatre Company perform “Come From Away” this October, with our Head of Service, Dr Sarah Browne, as Musical Director.

Do you live in Shropshire (including Telford and Wrekin)? Is your child keen to learn music but the costs are too much to manage? 🎶

If you are in receipt of Universal Credit or have exceptional circumstances the Jon Hayward Memorial Trust may be able to help.
We award bursaries on an annual basis to part-fund the cost of music lessons for children who are prevented from pursuing their interest by their family's financial situation and the lack of funding from elsewhere.
Our support can be for lessons in school, or arranged privately. In all cases, proof of family income will be required.
Referral forms and further details have been sent to primary schools, but can also be obtained by emailing:
