⚠️ Let’s talk about the so-called “GEL MANICURE BAN” being discussed on Morning…

First and foremost, GEL MANICURES HAVE NOT BEEN BANNED IN THE UK.

The recent change relates to ONE specific ingredient… TPO, which has been used in some gel products to help them cure. It does not mean that all gel products are unsafe, and it certainly doesn’t mean that clients need to stop having professional gel manicures.

I’m all for honest conversations about product safety, allergies and responsible working practices. These are important subjects. However, sensational headlines such as “Gel Manicure Ban” create unnecessary fear and give consumers a completely inaccurate impression of what is actually happening.

I was also extremely disappointed by Nadine’s suggestion that clients should choose a LARGE salon over a SMALL independent salon because it would somehow be safer.

SALON SIZE HAS ABSOLUTELY NO BEARING ON SAFETY OR PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS.

What actually matters is:

✔️ Appropriate training and insurance
✔️ Good hygiene and safe working practices
✔️ Reputable, compliant professional products
✔️ Using the correct lamp for the chosen system
✔️ Following the manufacturer’s instructions
✔️ Avoiding skin contact and ensuring products are cured correctly
✔️ Safe application and removal
✔️ Continued education and up-to-date product knowledge

Many small and home-based nail professionals invest heavily in their education, products and working environment. They provide meticulous, one-to-one care and take the safety of every client incredibly seriously. 💅🏼

My blunt opinion: a useful discussion ruined by a sensational headline and an unnecessary generalisation about small salons.

It creates fear and damages responsible nail professionals when the accurate message is simply:

ONE INGREDIENT IS BEING PHASED OUT—COMPLIANT GEL SERVICES ARE CONTINUING.

This Morning, I would genuinely like to know what evidence supports the suggestion that a large salon is automatically safer than a small independent one.
