I knew that Bigtrak would come in useful eventually!!
Turns out that he's really good for learning how to tell the time 😁Always a tricky subject 😉

Apparently 2025 is a Cube Year...
So, of course we had to prove it!
Thank you Maths Corner for the inspiration 😉
A festive trivia question for you all today!
How many ghosts made an appearance in Charle's Dicken's famous novella, "A Christmas Carol" ?
I like to use Morphology with my older learners and it is proving very successful 😁
Basically, Morphology is a way of breaking up word into the root word, prefix and suffix. It helps my learners to read longer words and increases their comprehension.
It's also fun! And the older boys especially get very competative when I ask them how may words they can think of containing a specific root🤣
What words can you see here?

Studying can be hard at this time of year- so many distractions! Christmas plays to practise, mince pies to eat and Christmas lists to write ✏️
So what is the best way to ensure that your child is making progress, even when you have a hunderd and one things to do?
"Keep it fun!" is usually the most successful strategy 😉
At the end of every session, I offer each child an activity to take home that consolidates their learning. Sometimes that is a card game, other times a wordsearch or a story to read together 📙If your child is doing something they enjoy- they are much more likely to learn from it😁
What educational activities do you enjoy doing with your child?

Aww, I just love knowing that what I do makes a difference 🥰🥰
This little superstar works sooo hard in his lessons that I always have to keep a few activities up my sleeve, just in case 🤣

🌼Tutor Tuesday🌼
I am sometimes asked why I decided to become a Dyslexia tutor...
There are *many* different reasons that I love tutoring
🌈I am able to give each child individual attention
🌈I love that moment when they 'get it' and their eyes light up ☺
🌈I can plan lots of engaging, fun activities that my Learners love!
But the biggest reason that I starting tutoring was my daughter- who is dyslexic! When she was around 6, we took her out of school to home educate her for a few years. The classroom was just too busy, too loud and she really hated having to fill in worksheets. In fact, for the next six months, she refused to even pick up a pencil 🤦♀️
So we played lots of (educational) games, did lots of activities and laughed a lot! She was my fist Lovely Learner, and she certainly taught me a lot 🤣😂
Fast forward 15 years and she is thriving 😁 She's just about to graduate from a Maths degree and will be starting her Masters degree in October 😊

Today I wanted to find a way for one of my Lovely Learners to practise addition.... But I didn't really want to use a worksheet.
So instead, we are doing a Treasure Hunt around the tutoring room!
Checkout my Stories to see what the treasure is 😉

It's been a lovely sunny day here at Firbanks HQ, so we took the puppy out for a little walk 😊☀️
Has anyone else been out doing anything nice today?
