Measles can spread very easily and symptoms can include:
- High temperature
- Runny/blocked nose
- Sneezing
- A cough
- Red, sore, watery eyes
- A rash that usually appears a few days after the cold-like symptoms.
If you think you or your child may have measles, contact your doctor or NHS 111 for advice before you go in person. This helps to stop the virus from spreading.
Seek urgent help by calling 999 or going to A&E if you or your child also become drowsy, are eating and drinking much less than usual, have a rash that does not fade when pressed or are short of breath.
Check your family are up-to-date with vaccinations. Two doses of the MMR vaccine give you the best protection against measles.

Things allergy parents spot in a classroom in two seconds flat 👀
🧁 The birthday treats
A tray of cakes brought in from home, with no packaging, ingredient label or clear information about how they were made.
🍿 The shared snack box
Loose packets, children sharing food and no obvious way of checking the ingredients or preventing mix-ups.
🎨 The food-based activity
Baking, food tasting, cereal counting—or playdough that may contain wheat. Allergens aren’t only encountered at lunchtime.
🥛 The milk on tables
Open cartons, spills, shared surfaces and children moving around the classroom while eating or drinking.
🧼 The “clean” hands
Hand sanitiser being used instead of soap and water. Sanitiser kills germs, but it does not reliably remove allergen proteins from hands.
💉 The emergency medication
Adrenaline auto-injectors locked away, stored out of reach—or staff in the classroom not knowing exactly where they are.
Allergy parents become very good at noticing the small details, because those details tell us whether allergy safety has genuinely been thought through.
