‘The Orangery’ art Exhibition at Powis Castle: 2026-09-03 17:00 Event Template (do not delete)

A fifth heatwave! Me and my garden are fantasising about the memory of these gorgeous knobbly streetside Bitter Oranges 🍊 or Neratzia dripping with fresh rainwater after a tropical downpour in a suburb of Athens earlier in the year.

This was a whole lotta fun to paint- I absolutely loved creating the slippery moist 💦 dribbles 🤣 and swelling droplets 💧 making them sooooo wet and juicy! - I particularly enjoyed contrasting the detail in the moisture with the robust glossy citrus leaves 🍃

Of course this one is also headed to Powis Castle & Garden NT/YG Castell a Gardd Powis for my solo show ‘The Orangery’ 🍊 in September- I’m looking forward to seeing them all framed up - I’ve created a whole display system by repurposing colonial rattan screens and freestanding easels to fill the unique space of the Georgian Orangery in the Castle.

Apparently it’s 🌻 so I thought I’d share this recent painting of a stunning arrangement of variegated ones gifted to me by the horticultural legend that is Pippa Price Pippa Price Pippa Price - aren’t they spectacular?

I don’t mind admitting I found these guys a real workout and was fully ready to throw this out of the window mid-way through the ‘U’ of painting it. All the texture and subtle orangey rusty tones… However, persistence beats resistance and I was pleased I managed to wrestle this one under control.

Fully channeling some Van Gogh energy but with classic ⚡️ vibes and a massive 30x40inches I like it, but I’m two minds about including it in my forthcoming solo show Powis Castle & Garden NT/YG Castell a Gardd Powis THE ORANGERY 🍊- what do you think?

NB the latter photos are from the central panel of the 12ft triptych commission I created for Soulton Hall last November 🌻 they symbolise light, life, regeneration and rebirth. Girasol 🌻 the Spanish means turn-sun 🌞 as they rotate to bathe in the strongest light. So much joy.
